That Pesky Soft 18 Hand

One thing I didn't get straight from the "A-7" hand discussion.

With no indices in play should you play a three or more soft eight hand the same as a two card ... except hit where you would double? IE: A-4-3 VS 9 or higher you hit, and A-2-3-3 VS 7-8 Stay?

Straight basic strategy in a shoe game says to stand vs. everything less than 9 if you can't double...I believe.

Gosh ... maybe I should actually READ the BS table once in a while.

Thanks for setting me straight. I better re-check all my plays.

I take it this also applies to A-3-4 or A-2-2-3 etc?

Yeah, the soft 18 is unique that way...the rest of soft hands less than S18 you just hit where it says double when you have more than 2 cards.

good luck

Well not A-2-3-3, because that's soft 19. But A-2-2-3, yes.

Soft 18 a good time to win money!!!

If you are so lucky to get a soft 18 in the form of A-7 and doubling is allowed on any two cards it is a good idea to double when the dealer is showing any drawing card 2-6. Taking a card with 18 will not hurt you as much as not putting out more money. Sometimes the card you catch will improve you farther. Most of the time you win with 18 the dealer busted any way so even if your hand is made worse you still got a decent chance to win.

If doubling is not allowed when you get soft 18 you either have 3 or more cards or you are playing double on 10-11 only than you should stay rather than hit. When the dealer shows a 2-6.

On soft 18 always stay if the dealer shows a 7-8 hit.

On soft 18 hit against a 9 you will win 9 more hands in a hundred! IF you hit soft 18 against a 10 you will win 3 more hands in a hundred.

It is also ok to hit soft 18 aginst an ace if the dealer hits soft 17!

You always play the soft eighteen two card or other the same except in a double deck S17 game versus the Ace. If you have A,7 you hit and any other soft 18 you stand. ie A,4,3.
