The collective edge

I think the blackjack news is a fairly accurate representation of the situation around the country and wonder if you took the average edge of all the tables in the US combined how that has changed over the past 5 years or so and what we can expect in the future.

For at least one city like LV it would not be too hard to average the numbers from one year to the next.

Does anyone have any comments on how the "collective edge" has deteriorated and what we can expect in the future?

I think it is good for the players that there might still be a little competition amongst casinos in order to give them an impetus to make the rules a little better.

This is a good idea, but i think that in the terms of card counting and its future you woudl have to factor penetration into the equasion. Maybe you could use one of those game rating scorer things like snyder made and take the averages of those numbers

Current Blackjack news actually includes penetration (as well as other rules) so it would be possible to track that through issues...

also, though i hate to keep plugging wong's GC pages on this free site (the POM archives themselves in my opinion are worth AT LEAST the price of just one month of subscription), there is a post every month with the best SCOREs in vegas (with #decks, rukes, etc listed). maybe someone with the time can just go and pull 2-3 per of these per year for last few years (i am not sure how far back these go). the change in average SCORE in these lists might provide some insight into the changing profitability of games being offered...
