the mentor count

Hello everyone,

I've finished Renzey's bluebook 2 and learned a lot from it. I've got the mentor count down. The problem is the riverboat that's closest to where I live hits soft 17. There's another boat farther away but you need higher minumium bets to play there for stand on soft 17. My question is what would be my advantage over the casino if I played h17, or should I go to the boat with better rules. I'm not sure I want to start out with that high minumium though. Renzey says the with s17 you should have .75% advantage over the casino with s17.

Any advice would be appreicated.

Thanks

H17/S17 isn't the only thing worth considering. table limits matter a lot in relation to your bankroll. does the casino with H17 allow LS? what about their doubling rules? do you know which one will have better penetration?

there are two local joints i like to play at. one has S17 but horrible penetration, the other has H17 & LS and wonderful penetration. The latter game has a higher house edge, but it is the one i prefer to play.

you should be able to calculate the PRECISE edge of each game using the values in Renzey's book, or using online calculators. The lower the house edge, the higher your edge will be when you sit down to play. It is difficult to evaluate what your edge will be, are you in a play-all situation, can you table hop? will you be wonging in and out?

if table minimums are an issue, go to the one with lower minimums and use wonging whenever called for.

all these things should matter in your final decision.

From what I've read by Ian Andersen and others penetration is a very very important consideration. And that's putting it mildly.

Penetration trumps h17 v. S17. AND if the pene is equal than you just need a moderately bigger bet spread w/H17. As for how much higher the housEdge is w/H17, I beleive thats in Blue Book and you simply alter your betting schedule accordingly. zg

this is an extremely easy question to answer.. take .0047 (house edge of s17, das, da2, 8 decks) (or use wutever house edge your casino has) and multiply it times 75 (about the hands per hour of 5-6 ppl) and then times the minimum at the table.. for instance $10*.0047*75 = $3.52/hr lost.. then do the same for the other casino, and whichever is lower, choose that table.. for instance i would rather play $5 h17 than $10 s17, and if it really close, factor in gas money.. the reason i dont even think about wut your doing with counting is because i bet the difference in the above calculations will be a lot, thus wut ur doing with counting wont matter in terms of which casino to play in

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like it's not that big of a deal to play h17. I just thought with the casino having another .20% using bs against you that it would hurt. So I'll try that one when I'm ready.

It still hurts, you just have to change your play a little bit to overcome it. You should still try to play s17 if possible.
