Time to throw in the towel... for now...

I give up. I'm throwing in the towel.. for now. At least until my bankroll can recover a bit.

I've lost about 600 units in the past week. I had been up 800 units but I'm hitting severe negative variance so I'm taking a break from the tables. Partially because of some personal reasons to that I'm taking the last 600 units of my bankroll are going to be needed to cover some bills due to emergency.

Ever just have a session that just looks good? TC goes up around +10, and you keep losing with 20? That's last night for me.

Ugh. I'm glad I don't do this for a living. I would have jumped off a bridge by now.

This negative flux that you described is probably one of the top reasons why most counters fail. Dont give up. Play through it, it will end. My teammate and I are experiencing the exact same thing. After 8 sessions we were up 320 units, since then we have had 3 loosing months. We have now played 30 session and are currently down 18 units.

As for loosing during high counts, get use to it! On the last shoe I played I lost every single bet above the pivot. Its tough at first, but with experience you will get use to these types of losses. Dont worry, they dont happen to often.

Good Luck.

If it was just the regular flux I would play through it. But it's the fact that I have to pull from my bankroll for personal expenses right now. That was the main factor and then the losses just added insult to injury and now I would be gambling with money I technically can't afford to lose right now.

smart move Preston.
life is full of changes isn't it.
it is likely that you shall be able to play again in the future.
in the mean time you can be sharpening the axe.
thats what i'm doing. i had a rather large downswing but it only put a relatively small dent in my overall bankroll. but i don't want to lose any more substantial amounts. so i'm laying low, trying to figure how to obtain greater EV and have been dancing with Lady Luck's ugly sister Lady Surebet (otherwise known as a job). building the bank and seeking EV. i know i can't avert negative fluctuations but i can decide when i'm ready able and willing to risk facing them.

Remember, even with the TC very high, all those extra 10's can go to the dealer. Also, they might all be below the cut card. That's why the MIT gang needed LOTS of money to win. You must be able to continue to throw out that mega bet when the count is high. A very large bankroll is needed.

Yes, there is more variance with huge plus counts. You can take enormous swings in either direction. Preston just took the swing in the wrong direction...

towels?

I feel your pain, make mine a crying one. In the past three months I've been wacked just like you. I know it's not for as much but it feels the same.I like playing the game too much to stop on bad beats. I scale back my bets and just go again if nothing else just for fun. blackchipjim

Question - in units, how big was your max bets? zg

12 unit max bet

or I would do two hands at 8 units.

I don't think I was overbetting. But there were two hands where I lost 72 units each. Which hurt big time.

preston.. i thought you were the man.... the guy who can teach me a few things about gambling.... i guess not
Actually, he is teaching you the most important lesson of all: Don't gamble with money you can't afford to lose! He's had a huge negative swing and needs to use his bankroll to pay off some emergency debt. That sounds very responsible to me.

Sonny,

I'm kinda getting off track here a bit. But since you are in LA, I wondered if there is anywhere in CA worth while to play BJ, or is it just Vegas? Just curious.

good luck

How much is one unit???? If it's $1 or $5, that's nothing! If it's $10, then we're talking about something of bad variance even with high TCs. If it's $25 or $50, then we have a big problem. Throw out that towel.

Ah, that hurts. Especially if you were able to split, double down, split, double down, split again, double down again.... aw, dealer had 5 showing, 8 underneath; then draws a 2, then a freakin 6. Darn!
