Tipping Idea

I just wanted to share my method of tipping dealers.

I put a $1 chip on the side bet for the dealer. I tell them that I am playing it for them. This has multiple benefits. It is a good way to reduce the amount that you are tipping, it gives the opportunity to make a tiny tip a much larger tip, and lastly it creates a small amount of cooperation between you and the dealer.

If the dealer gets a small win, I don't immediately give them the tip. I keep the winnings near the playing circle and I ask: "would you like your tip or would you like to play again?" I keep doing this until they request their tip or until we spend their tip trying to win. One dealer said: "don't be cheap, put all of the win on the bet. So I put it all on, three $1 chips and he lost it. He thought it was quite funny, called the pit boss and said: "I lost my tip."

My hope is that I can get some big wins for the dealers. Not too high. I wouldn't play a side bet with a $1000+ win because that would be difficult to give away and could even be suspicious to give that much to the dealer.
But say a $100 or $200 win would certainly make me very popular with the dealers, and they would very much always want me to win.

Even if I win them $200, I won't cry, because I have budgeted that amount as a tip for them, and I know that I am making a regular profit anyway.

When my bets are high and I am winning back large chunks of money very fast however, I find the dealers tend to get really grumpy. In those occasions I just throw them reds. Putting a $1 chip on the side bet would be a slap in the face.

The dealer would keep a higher expected proportion of the tip if you avoided most side bets.

But, you're right that keeping the tip under your own control can make for some more interesting scenarios. i still like the "let it ride scenario", if you put a toke chip on top of your regular bet, give it to the dealer if you win (and leave it in place for the next bet). You still only "spend" the tip once (and most of the time it's immediatley lost), but sometimes you get on a winning streak and the dealer rakes in a pile of tokes. It's fun.

i would like to see that $1 double up 10 times or so. $1000 tip anyone? and it only cost you $1. you would have one happy dealer.

Sounds great. Only most real casinos don't allow their dealers to let winning tips ride. It's not just the dealer in front f you you are tipping. He shares his tips with the whole BJ staff.

I don't let the entire tip ride, just $1 of it. So if that $1 becomes three $1 chips, I keep putting one on at a time unless the dealer says put it all on.

I don't think the casinos where I am give a rat if the tip rides. It's my money and I will do what I want with it. The win is mine, I just chose to give it to the dealer. What does it matter if I give them $200 in chips as a tip or get a bunch of wins for the dealer that equals $200?

I think some casinos let you put money above your bet for the dealer.
Don't do that. Just put the money on the side bet or on top of your own bet.
