Vegas picking up?

The financial reports don't seem to indicate a major up tick yet, but my observation is that the crowds are getting bigger. I spend every saturday night bouncing around the strip (not playing cards) and it has been pretty crowded of late. Maybe these folks aren't spending at historical rates but they are definitely out-of-towners and seem to be having fun. :)

I have had multi night stays at a lower end, pink, mid strip joint belonging to the evil empire three times in the last 6 weeks and it was packed each time. Granted the first two were holiday weekends (New years, and superbowl), when I rented out my place for a handsome profit. (ie. Advantage play...) But this week I stayed there 4 nights, mid week, while having renovations done at my place and it was again packed. Waited over an hour just to check in. :( It should be noted that I am the lowest tier total rewards level having fallen from diamond thru platinum because I no longer play much on this card, so I had to wait in the commoners line. So crowded that it was annoying. If it wasn't free......

Again, maybe just because the hotels are full, doesn't translate to people spending money. Maybe they are going down further on the lists and comping lower rollers and spenders. I don't know. I can only go by my observations.

Harrahs gives rooms away to almost anyone. Now it is biting them in the ass as people come and are not gambling.
The Venetian recently announced it is no longer going to comp any but its best slot club members. They instead will try to hook up with the convention crowd and offer discounted rooms for them. They found that giving free rooms to low rollers did little but hurt their brand.
Gaming revenues in Vegas continue to decline, but sales of booze is on the upswing.

When did they announce this? I have gotten NICE comps there over the past 3 months.

Not only is booze on the upswing but hookers seem to be more prevalent and obvious each time I go to LV. I've been told they've lowered prices but make it up in volume (business 101?)

I believe the announcement was on Feb 5th, but it wasn't really publicized until the LVR ran a story on Feb 7th. Google- LVSands cuts comps and you'll get a few hundred stories.

The hand writting is on the wall for Vegas, 22 years ago Mi. had 1 casino, today 23, Ohio, Penn, and just about every state to follow.

When Tenn. and Kantucky legalize land based casinos they will become the new Vegas due to Central Location and a keen knowledge on how to,,,,PARTYYYEEEE:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I don't have any facts to back this up, but my gut feeling is that, being in the middle of the bible belt, legalizing casinos in Tennessee is going to be a real tough sell.

Shoofly....i'm a yankee that has a place in tn..hr east of nashville....16 yrs ....I have seen huge changes in the state..Number one the Yankees are coming the yankees are taking over.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Basically they have taken over already. I hear what your saying but, the place isnt what it was when we moved there....
Tn has kept their budgets pretty well under control.....A real fight every year to keep the personal income tax at bay....Every dam year the libs want to enact one......
Tn. already tried the free healthcare thingy and it failed dismally....to many people (using ) and abusing the system....It went belly up...
So i see no casino's in the states near future just because the state is in fair shape financially...Not sure the religion thing holds water anymore...
But who knows.........crap happens..
Now Georgia where i reside now.....yea the bible stuff is alive and well.....
Kentucky no idea.....

Would be cool to have all three jump on the boat and build though......:)

If you build it---they will come (if they have money!!!)

Most states are experiencing BIG budget problems at present. Tennessee has been included in that group in some midwestern newspapers. If true, it probably enhances would be attempts for casinos there.
Most midwestern states have had lots of casinos for many years already and Vegas didn't seem to suffer as a result of them. IF the economy ever comes back, they'll all be full and so will Las Vegas.
That's the way I see it.

Yep good points Billy.....remember when calfornia opened casinos? Vegas was gonna die:-D......yea well heck vegas toook off like a rocket.....don't believe the news on tn., property values nev er jumped like other places.....its afairly stable market minus some of the large cities of course. If your desperate for a job....I'm seeing some action in ga. And tenn. As far as building goes...warner robbbins AFB I. Ga., in and around there is commercial building and I'm seeing a few homes being built......
Also....just an observation.....if there is 10% unemployment??? Does that mean that there still are 90% employed???? =-O=-O. Really how bad can it be......?

True, it probably hasn't been "that bad" for most of us but what's really discouraging to me is that I see NO light at the end of the tunnel---do you??? (I'm talking about unemployment, home values, etc.)

So you rented out your place and then had to have renovations done...that doesn't sound like positive EV! ;)

No it wouldn't be. But is not the case. The two events are not related. ;)

I've observed the same in local's casinos...

...I've noticed the same thing so far this month in the local's casinos. It could be the $$$ Station has been putting into their "We love locals" promotion and car drawings.

In December, I played for the first time in over a year in one of Boyd's local casinos when I had guests in town. They sent me all kinds of free room offers for February and put me on their mailing list for which I received a booklet of free food and play offers. I think the majors on the Strip may be doing the same and they may all be getting back to the old Vegas idea of giving the food, rooms and entertainment away and make your money at the tables.

I was mainly referring to the strip, B J Cobb, but don't get me started on station casinos. Try hitting them on a Friday afternoon/night when the locals are cashing their paychecks (paycheck bonanza promotion). lol Hour long line at the cages.:eek:

Tell me about that line!

Once, I was at GVR and planning to head to the airport from there. Went to cash out my chips about 2 hours before my flight and saw a monster line. I had no idea what it was all about, but quickly found out about the paycheck cashing (very sad...) Fortunately, a supr was nice enough to take me to the poker room to cash me out, so I wouldn't miss my flight.
