what do you think of this betting strategy and how can you improve it?

say you got to a 5 dollar table so you bet 5 and lose then you bet 10 and lose the you bet 20 and lose then you bet 40 and lose then you bet 80 and lose then you bet 160 and lose then you bet 320 and win after that you start again with 5 dollar bets and again when you lose you start that cycle again always starting at 5 when you win? and also this would be one on one with the dealer.

or how bout in computer blackjack theres a 2 dollor table what if i did the same thing like bet 2 then 4 then 8 then 16 then 32 then 64 the 128 and if i win by 128 again start at 2? and slowly work up the money? because in the computer black jack when playing one on one i dont think its goin to beat me 7 times in a row? but i guess its possible haha

That is the name of the strategy you are referring to. It wont yeild a positive outcome in the long term. You will have several small wins and a few big losses that will wipe them out. If there were no table maximums and you had an infinate bankroll then it would be possible to just keep playing until you win a hand and yeild a long term profit, but in the real world that doesnt work and casinos love it when people try this.

If you are playing a -EV game then the martingale won't work, but not if you are counting. And what I meant by voodoo was that it should be in the voodoo betting strategies forum.

What happens when you lose 20 in a row

I have been an advantage player for well over 25 years. In that time I have had 3 losing streaks of over 20 hands. Plus statistically in a less than 24 hour period of blackjack you should have one streak of at least 10 straight loses.
Your martingale system is one reason why casinos have limits and I guess their bankroll is bigger than yours also.
Also, casinos comp martingale players very well while at the same time they refuse cardcounters from playing.

With a 1% advantage:

Let's say you flat bet, 49.5% of the time you will win 1 unit and 50.5% of the time you will loose a unit, therefore loosing 1 unit per 100 hands. If you double once after a loose, you will win 1 unit 74.4075% of the time and loose 3 units 25.5025% of the time, therefore loosing 2.1 units every 100 hands. If you double 6 times in a row, then you win 1 unit 98.341% of the time and loose 63 units 1.659% of the time, therefore loosing 6.176 units per 100 hands. Wanna double more? You will win more often and get bigger looses!

The moral is, unless you can find a progression system that can win over 99.99909% of the time, don't try them (if you do then go ahead since you probably won't see ten million hands).

thanks for the info guys ...but yah i guess the only way it might work is if im in the plus count.......but hey i have a nother question there is this blackjack machine ta fraserdowns casion in langley and its got a 42 inch screen for dealer than a table where cards are dealt and you can see everyones cards im wondering if martingale would work on this game because every time i go there as im leaving sometimes late around 3am there the same guys i always see come and play and i talked to them and one of them told me there making anywhere from 100 to 500 a night and then leaving and they play one on one with the dealer what do you think there doing?
