If you were given $25 in free slot play, and were playing Jacks or Better, would you play at a .25 or .50 8/5 pay table or would you go to the $1 9/6 machine?

Depends on a few things. If I don't expect to be having to make this choice again, and my bankroll was on the smaller side, I would go with the 25 cent 8/5, hoping the variance will have a little less effect with 20 bets v 5. A 2% difference is nothing with only $25.

In retrospect, the 15 additional plays is miniscule in the variance sense as well. Maybe just go for the $1 and hope you get lucky.

I generally go for broke and play a nickle 100 play machine. I figure in a worst case scenerio, I'll get at least $10 back, which gives me another forty hands. Thats 140 shots at a Royal Flush in under a minute.
Unless I'm having a bad trip and need to convert the FP into cash. Then I'd hit an electronic roulette machine and cash out about $24.

unfortunately all of the 100 play machines in AC are 7/5 payouts for J o B. I'm going to have to do research on the other VP games to see if there are better payouts for them. I remember when they first came out with them and I was in Vegas at NY NY casino. They had 9/6 J o B for them and my friends and I made an absolute killing on it as it takes away all of the variance thus giving you a much better chance of getting a royal or straight flush.

Agree With AM

Play whatever JOB game is full pay is the first condition. The second is to stay within your bankroll. Besides those points.

quarter full pay; wasting time, unless your intended game with your bankroll.

The dollar machine may be the best because reasonable as far as time and bet size.

$5 machine the rare straight flush can slow you down with a hand pay. Yes, a good problem to have.:joker::whip:

The way I look at it, it's a quick in and out on the machine. You are really looking for the RF, SF or 4 of a kind. While the 7/5 will kill you in the long run, I'm only playing two, maybe three hands and then cashing out whatever real money is there. Recently, I had some Reel Rewards for AC and thats how I played them. Three hands at Showboat, three at Ballys, and four at Caesars. $225 FP in, a bit more out and off to enjoy a free meal.
Got $160 in FP at 4Q and Binions and did the same. Electronic roulette will give you a better assured return, but the 100 play makes it interesting.
I see it as akin to playing 6-5 BJ with promo chips. You aren't going to get paid 3-2 anyway, so play them fast and move on to your real game.

I frequently get these free plays for $25 or $50.

I always go for 9/6 J.O.B. at the highest denomination play that I can find.

If I have $25 I will look to play a $5 machine one or two hands.
