Hey board,

does anyone have any news on the previous televised BJ programs/tourneys like World Series of BJ, etc? Also, anyone have any feedback on the Elimination Tourneys on ClubWPT or Clubuwin.com -- any preferences, are they worth joining at $19.95?

tks

I once told an investor in televised BJ tournaments that the problem is no one wants to watch another person play BJ. I don't think he appreciated it.:) But, it simply isn't as interesting as watching Poker. If you're lucky, the last few hands can be interesting. But, they have to fill in the space with guys pretending to be chainsaws and other such idiocy. Poker simply has more common interesting situations and the personalities make a much larger difference in the game.

Televised blackjack tournaments were basically a failed experiment. When UBT's considerable investment in the idea was not a success, I think that spelled the end of the effort. UBT's business model was killed by the passage of the UIGEA in October 2006, but ratings were an issue even before that.

GSN also transitioned out of the World Series of Blackjack and replaced it with poker programming, which has been a tried-and-true success on TV.

Will television blackjack be back? Perhaps if the UIGEA is overturned someone could make it work. I'm not optimistic.

As for ClubUWin, my wife plays there but she plays poker not the blackjack events. If the idea appeals to you, it's probably worth a month fees to give it a try. Don't expect much financial value, but you may find it worth the money for entertainment.

Online EBJ and televised events

Thanks Gents,

regarding the info about the televised events.. it makes sense that Poker is a "Hotter Ticket" than televised BJ, I guess I was wishful thinking... Regarding the Elimination BlackJack tourneys online -- I guess they wouldn't be much of a money-maker. I guess here too, Poker takes the cake.

Ken, would or could you suggest any other tourneys besides live ones?

Tks!

I know the Cake Poker network recently added blackjack tournaments but I don't have any experience with them. UB and Absolute Poker still offer them, but they of course have a shady history with cheating scandals. If you're outside the US I think GameAccount has some tournaments.
