Who is Bill Zender?

Are Bill Zender's books worth reading? He was recommended to me but I don't trust the source.

I've only read an article or two by him, and heard him mentioned by reputation, but I would say YES, they are reading, mainly for getting a management perspective on APs and cheats.

BZ is a very knowledgable and experienced casino everything (he's had just about every job in the industry and has played on our side of the table too).
His books are worth reading for the casino perspective on us. Card Counting for the Casino Executive has a lot of detail about exactly what the 'eye' is looking for when they're running you down - useful to know.
His best book though would be Advantage Play for the Casino Executive. Maybe not all that useful for a recreational player not really looking to take the game any more seriously, but for any player who would like to look into techniques other than counting, this is a fantastic resource.

Bill is the real deal

The 2-page guide to quickly catching a card counter is worth more than the price of the book, many times over. It is somewhat universal. Each casino's protection dept. has their own way to do things and different procedures for documenting us, but they all do the same basic things. This one has a few great moments that make it well worth the price in my opinion. But then again, I try to always "read all the books and get all the money".

Knowing your opponent

As others have said, Zender's books are more than just worthwhile. The way I look at it is that you are in a competition or game and your opponent is the casino. The more you learn about how the casino does things that pertain to you, the better your chance of increasing your advantage.
