Man, the table I was at on the weekend was ALL newbies. People splitting pairs regardless of what the dealer had, people hitting 14s against "bust cards", doubling on 12s, standing on 13-16 against face cards all night long.

It actually helped me more often than it hurt me. After my first preferential shuffling ever (yay me!) I was only flat betting and drinking anyway, so it was kind of fun. The dude at third base was freaking out so bad at these plays that I ended up telling him to relax and let them play their own hands. The dealer even called over the pitboss to straighten the guy out. Didn't help that we were all betting $5 and he was tossing around $25 chips and losing his ass.

The two people to his right would stand on 13 and 14 against a face card, he'd hit the two hands he was playing and bust them both, and slam his hand on the table in anger. We'd all be trying to hold back laughter.

Sometimes it fun to just sit back and enjoy the show.

actually saw several players who seemed to use basic strategy correctly this week-end!

i can top that!

player one split 5's against a 10!!! and lost.

player two doubled down on a hard 6 against a 8, and got dealt a 2!!!!

AMAZING!

oh, and i got a 7 card 18, and for the hell of it, almost hit it, had i, i would have had an 8 card, 21....

I watched a dealer hit to a 9 card 18 on Saturday night. What's even better she would have had a 11 card 21 if she kept hitting.

I was just glad I hit my 12 against a 2 and got my 9 before watching that.

Count must have been good after that round!

Wait.

The dealer was shuffling away high counts, even though you were flat betting? Was anyone else spreading their bets at all erratically?

Because if the dealer was preferentially shuffling a table full of flat-bettors and ploppies, that would be one of the shittiest things I could imagine.

No, I started drinking and flat betting *after* the shuffling. I was counting the first several shoes, saw the shuffle, and thought screw it, I'm not leaving.

This place always cuts off 1 deck. It actually shocked me to see them cut 2 1/2 or more off because I'd *never* seen that before.

I just sat there and drank and had fun with everyone at the table. Sat there for 5 hours, turned my $60 buy-in into $90. What the hell, cheap entertainment, and I even got to watch the hockey game on the bigscreen beside our table.

Kaiser, I don't think that's properly preferential shuffling, it's just really crappy penetration.

What I'm thinking of would be the dealer (in a pitch game) reshuffling only when the count got good. Or maybe having a big bet trigger an immediate reshuffle.

except for all the aces that must have been in there :(

my 7 card 18 had 3, an 8 card 18 must have had a bunch too, again a tragedy!
