I say it's a mixed blessing.

Positives:

(1) A more live game will actually help the concept of poker; instead of reducing a 300 hour tournament to 5 hours of TV, they'll show poker as it actually happens, boredom and all.

(2) People having a few months to rest up and study their opponents will make for stronger strategies and better gameplay all around.

Negatives:

(3) Part of tournament strategy is endurance, and having this delay just robs the final table of that experience. Part of winning is outlasting your opponents.

(4) People change and grow over the course of 3 months. The players who sit down at the final table will, assuming several amateurs make the final table, not be the same crew that made the final table.

(5) This is just an obvious greed move by Harrah's. They want the TV ratings because I bet it's more profitable than actually running casinos. F*** Harrah's.

I also think endurance is a strong play. Tired players make mistakes reading the opposition, give in to general play... lose their edge.

Reliance on TV indicates problems. Throughout the 80's and 90's, (and the 70's before my experience at tables) it was never needed. Now its a must have. If you wanted to see Stu in action, get yer ass on a jet and go see him. Now we can watch a staged game with Hollywood playahs. (NO that doesn't mean it is rigged... just on stage with Hollywood-like characters)

Poker is like Golf, better played than watched.

the tiredness and mistakes are all part of the game, i thought the main event anymore was to be prepared for like you would prepare for a marathon, where it is a very long time. I thought the article brought up good points that you will be fresh and not playing like you did when the tournament got to 9.
