This chart shows exact percentages for how often each double-down hand in blackjack will win, push, or lose. The figures quoted are for a 6 deck game where the dealer stands on all 17s. The dealer is assumed to have already peeked under tens and aces and does not have blackjack. A combinatorial analysis process was used to calculate these numbers.
Inside each data area of the table, the top line is the percentage chance you’ll win the double (in blue), the middle line is how often you’ll push (in black), and the bottom line is how often you will lose the double (in red).
As an example of using the charts, say you’re holding (2,Ten) against a dealer upcard of 3. You could use this chart to see what would happen if you doubled down. This chart shows that you can expect to win 36.0% of the time, push 4.9% of the time and lose 59.1% of the time.
Why would you consider doubling (2,Ten) vs 3? Well, sometimes in tournament play you’ll need to make unconventional plays to maximize your chance of advancing to the next round.
Interesting to note, Thomas Tullis at Medium.com also used this table to come up with a strategy for playing blackjack online at Bovada.

These charts are great, Ken, but I was hoping to find something simpler. I want to know what percentage of blackjack hands are correct double downs using basic strategy in a 6-deck S17 game where you can double any two cards and double-after-split is allowed. Likewise, what percentage of hands are (correct) splits? I think the combined figure is around 11-12%, but I’m looking for a precise figure.
I don’t understand your %’s for A,T. Shouldn’t it be 100% if the dealer already peaked and doesn’t have 21? Am I missing something?
This page shows W/L/P percentages for when you double down on a hand, even when common sense shows that it would be foolish on many hands.
Doubling down on blackjack is an example of that. It’s a sure winner, 100%, if you stand. But when you double your bet and draw another card, now you can win, lose, or push.
I originally created this data because it can be very useful in tournament situations. Generally, it’s not useful to normal blackjack players, other than to get a feel for how the game behaves.

Who supervises the casino ? Example: 6 or 8 decks with 75% penetration .
The casino could take 10 faces , illegally , without the counter notice ?
your chart shows doubling a,2 vs 4 as win 49.4% and lose as46.0% but basic strategy chart does not show it as a double. what am I missing?
You can’t compare doubling vs hitting unless you also know the hit/lose/push probabilities for both. In the case of A2v4, those numbers are better when hitting than doubling. (There is likely a big reduction in loss percentage, and a big increase in pushes.) The double down charts simply do not include enough information to derive basic strategy from them, because they’re only part of the puzzle.
thanks, will try to find a chard on hitting with percentages
Why some of your winning possibility are over 50%, but not come to basic strategy chart?
Determining the best play is not just about looking at the winning percentage. Instead, you must look at the average return of the hand considering wins, losses, and pushes. Basic strategy uses whichever play yields the highest average return.
It may be that a particular double-down wins more than 50% of the time, but there is still a better way to play the hand. (Ace,Ace) vs 5 is a good example. Doubling that hand does win more than 50% of the time, but splitting is better yet.
For more discussion of why you can’t just use win-rate to decide how to play a hand, see Why Splitting Tens is a Bad Move.
Thanks a lot for your very logic and understandable explanation. If you help me to find any chart that shows the percentages of win, push, or lose of “all deferent possibilities” after dealt two cards for player, exactly base on basic strategy, either stay, hit, double or split (the same as your chart, but not just for doubling down), I really appreciate it.
thanks again
