Been playing the game for 15 years. Last night down 2400 brought up another 20 dollar bill then rallied that to 9000. Tonight down 6000 rallied to 11500 on a 6 deck Spanish 21 with a 500 maximum bet always looking to improve my game. Seeking blackjack mentor basically. Where’s your home base?
Hello Ken, On a recent trip to Laughlin, Nevada, playing blackjack at the Riverside Casino, I was in total shock at the table rules. You can Double down ONLY on a HARD TEN / ELEVEN OR HIGHER, CAN’T DOUBLE DOWN ON ANY SOFT HANDS AND NO DOUBLE DOWN AFTER A SPLIT. Blackjack did pay 3/2 and dealer hits soft 17. Can a person win under those rules? I quit playing there. Any other suggestions? I generally play at the Indian Casinos in Calif. where the rules are more favorable to the player. The biggest problem of all is…………… my lovely lady friend loves the Colorado River and wants to go back. Thanks so much for any suggestions, Larry D. P.S. Please don’t suggest a new girlfriend.
Those rules are definitely tough. Even if it is a 2-deck game, the starting house edge in that game is still 0.75%. It’s been a long time since I played in Laughlin, but I would surprised if there aren’t better choices available. Look around at some of the other places and see what’s available.
CV is extremely realistic, including various ways of shuffling that more closely mimic real shuffles. Having said that, if you are not shuffle tracking, the shuffle method really doesn’t matter. Casino shuffles are close enough to random for normal play that any decent shuffle process will yield the same long-term results.
With any software, or even experience at a live table in the casino, don’t put much importance on your short-term results. It takes time to understand what kinds of swings are normal in the game. If you have a great winning session, or an awful losing session, that really doesn’t tell you anything about how you’ll do on your next trip. You have to take a very long-term approach to the game.
Thanks zg. The new site is built on WordPress with a custom theme based on Zurb Foundation.
I’ve seen some SEO benefit already, but since I changed almost everything at once, I can’t attribute it to anything in particular. I’m sure it is part SSL, part mobile-friendliness, part page-load times, part message board cruft removal. The important thing… Users are liking it. I see lower bounce rates, and more feedback. It’s all good.
GameMaster, After practicing the HiLo system with your 24 Lesson Blackjack course, I switched over to the HiLo system from my speed count system. I went to atlantic city and played for two days and I am happy to say that I won each day. I am a $10 table player and I won about the same amount that I did using speed count system, Winning the money was great, but it meant more to me that I was able to use the HiLo system at the table with some success. I never thought I could learn HiLo system, but thanks to your lessons, it worked for me. However, I made many HiLo card counting mistakes, but I can definitely see the potential in using this system. I know I need more practice to master the HiLo system, but my main problem is mixing up the two systems. As I will continue to use HiLo system, I would appreciate your advice on how to overcome this problem. mikerevs
I’ll reply since the GameMaster is still not available.
Mixing up two systems when switching is very common if you have a fair amount of table time with the old system. It doesn’t take too long for that to go away though. It’s just a matter of concentration and time. I’m glad to hear you were successful in your first Hi-Lo trip. Thanks for the report!
Getting an account on Quizlet.com for free is great for doing drills. You can make your own flash cards, and it will drill you at break-neck speed. The advantage is you can access your flash cards from any internet source, even an iphone. Doing so will give you the ability to burn through thousands of repetitions as opposed to the old fashioned way. It’s really easy to set up. Just go to the website, give your email, and set up cards however you want them. Once you get the basic strategy down, you can make sets of cards that cover strategy deviation as well.
The Knowledge Base is a WordPress plugin I coded from scratch. It reads the data from the original vBulletin forum database and injects it into WordPress for normal page handling. While I was at it, I spent a lot of time to accomplish two more objectives… I wrote code to merge the old CardCounter.com message board content into the vBulletin database. And I wrote code to analyze all the outgoing links to see which ones were dead and which ones could successfully be redirected to archive.org. It’s not perfect, but it’s a far sight better than the state of things beforehand.
I like the ease of use. It’d be nice, as a novice to the game, to understand why the strategy is what it is. It’ll tell me what I should have done, but not why. That makes it difficult to not make the same mistake in the future. (Also, this form says the email is optional. It’s not)

I can recommend Blackjack Apprenticeship for a training community.

Looking for a mentor, barely a novice. In my early 20s, very eager to learn.

Is there going to be an European Style with no peek in the new version?
Hadn’t thought about it, but that sounds like a good idea.

Hello, iam new and learning blackjack on casino Verite 5.0. How realistic is this software vs. life blackjack.

Kudos on the responsive design and the conversion of the old forums into the largest BJ knowledge-base on the planet.
What is the new CMS, WP?, Drupal??
Curious to know if so far you’ve noticed any SEO improvement by making the entire site SSL?
Thanks zg.

I would say load time and universal SSL would be the main factors.
How did you convert to knowledge base? gConverter? bbPress?

I wish at some point this site could include a strategy trainer for Spanish 21.
