CP I was just wondering what was so bad about my advice that if you can't keep separated from AP play you shouldnt be in a casino?

135 it appears to me that you are missing the point of his post. Half the time he played a strong game with skill, just as he should have and he still lost, and lost big. After that he became confused and turned to slots etc to win it back and lost there too, as is expected. Your post is implying that if he were to continue playing he WOULD win it back. So maybe after reading that he may go get more borrowed family money and try because 135 said he WOULD make it all back.

The truth is he could play with all the skill in the world at the best of games and still lose it all, the dirty secret most here do not want to hear, aside from what the book and software sellers want you to believe.

I know you meant no harm, but this guy does not need any even small ray of hope or wink and nod that he should continue.

Creeping P. said it as perfectly as it can be said.

Giving false hope is just plain injurious.

Winning a couple of units an hour is NOT gambling, and being in a casino is as bad an idea as an alcoholic being a bartender.

The poster has a gambling problem.

As that has been stipulated, he needs to, at the very least, find the courage to admit defeat as it were and be brave enough to tell his wife, etc. the stone cold truth.

He needs to stay away from any form of gambling until he comes to grips with what makes him self-destruct; and begin the arduous painful process of putting his life in order.

Hopefully, he will realize that if he can overcome his problem, he will have accomplished something that he can be truly proud of.

This needs to be said.

There is some truth to the position that purveyors of books and DVD's and movies that purport to instruct one in how to find the Golden Goose of Card Counting tend to underplay, if not ignore, the fact that it is "A hard way to make an easy living." The downside risk is huge. Our overall (real life) edge [adjusted for cover play and human errors, etc.] should not be presented as > 1%.

MOST novice Card Counters go "belly up" or simply give it up, deciding for a variety of reasons that the activity does not suit them.

For Pathological (Compulsive) Gamblers it is NOT a safe route of the jungle of their self-destructive obsession, as Card Counting fails to have sufficient "gamble" in it, and that is what the "gambler" is hooked on, not eking out a good living in a casino environment peopled by fellow degenerate gamblers.

You must know that.

I am not looking for a Kool Aid answer from him. I just want to know what method he uses. Whether it be by looking at the stars or a odd even system just an honest answer.

I think we all know the score at least I do. It's called gambling whether you like it or not. 1% or 2% advantage is nothing in the big picture is peanuts. Maybe they have pulled the wool over our eyes, and tricked us into believing that we are AP and, in all reality, we are just gamblers.

Sorry about the confusion, what I meant by that was had he not resorted to slots and roulette and contiuned to play that game with the rest of his BR odds are he would have been fine.

but, i do know CP reads books.

your implication seems to be you think CP discredits Kool Aide.
just guessing but i imagine CP loves Kool Aide as much as the rest of us.

just me maybe, Kool Aide is fine for the pleasure consuming it provides and the nourishment it provides. thing is if that's all you got, then the likelihood that you'll join the ranks of the one in ten thousand who manage to enjoy some measure of success as an AP is well, imho just not in the cards.

say you started out as an AP with a nice fat juicy lifetime bank roll and some nice low risk of ruin in 2006 or so and on top of that had some nice juicy stock market and ira portfolio just bursting with profits and a fine job. now it's 2009 and you didn't turn out to be quite the AP you thought you would, your bankroll is down to what ever, one third of what it was. where is your stock and ira portfolio likely to be, now in 2009? then you got Bush, Obama and congress pissing away so much money that you just know inflation is on the way making for quite a rosy future. maybe your once 'secure' job is now not so secure.
just the point being, the unknown stuff, uncertainty, you can't escape it and kool aide can't deal with it.
what can deal with it is having half a grain of sense, simple enough, but simply relying on kool aide just isn't gonna cut it.

Let's say that is just life. You have to roll with the punches. I have been dealt so many knock out punches, but I have survied them all. I guess being a product of the tough love on the street I have no compassion for whiners.

You never know I might buy you a real beer. I will be making the golden triangle trip sometime in August if you need a update, but I don't think so. You have been there and done that already. I might also be totally wrong.
