Outrageous!

In the latest edition of Electrical Contractor Magazine there is a full page article by one Jennifer Leah Strong of Pennsylvania called, Eyes Peeled, Visual Surveillance Systems In Casinos. Following is a paragraph from the article.

Security to protect the casino
"Casinos have to closely monitor players who may be trying to cheat the system. Some ways in which a thief can threaten gaming integrity are card counting and pinlight devices that trigger credits in a video machine without inserting actual money. Cheating is a big revenue loss to casinos, and video surveillance helps protect against it."

"Video surveillance can be used to protect a casino against claims of things like misdeals and cheating"

If you care to register your outrage with the magazine you may do so by fax to 3012154501,,,,,sorry no email address given.

We are bad guys...

Wow people never cease to amaze me. They had us as cheaters and thieves in the same sentence and the guy in the other thread wonders why his wife feels the way she does...

since when has thinking become illegal . i find it insulting casinos label cardcounters or any type of mindplay as cheaters . and for people who agree with them lack common sense .

To be through, it is possible to be a "card counting cheater." There are devices being peddled to help you count cards, and device play is cheating in Las Vegas.

Never mind that those devices are useless and a counter who has to resort to them is probably no threat to the casino.

Thanks ZG

Thanks for the link ZG. It was actually in the sister magazine. Wonder if she will accept your invite.

Per the OP, the article aligned card counting with cheating. I can not see how that can be the case and I bet you can find no documented rules forbidding it.

Oh nos! the security company thinks they can play thought police by looking through a camera!

Honestly the words "cheater" are strong enough reasons to persuade casinos to buy their high tech security systems that attempt to catch players who are "winning more" than they should be.

Hopefully they are referring to stupid players using the iPhone Card Counting Apps or something else laughable by any decent AP.

All in all Card Counters that use their heads are safe. No one can play thought police, that is until Casinos implement mind reading devices and/or lie detectors hooked up to our seats :)

It doesn't bother me just to be called a cheater by the ignorant. The problem is, security and police departments are full of the ignorant and if someone plants the meme that we're cheaters (felons), a PC could report one of us as a card counter, and the security/police will think "felon" and we can expect to be thrown to the ground, guns drawn, handcuffed and pants pulled down, etc. Somebody could get hurt. There is always a significant risk of injury or death in a felony arrest, even an unjustified one.

opinions

I would have to guess that the mag is geared to the non-union contractor. It's no surprise that the mindset of the author coincides with alot of people that undermine others livelyhoods by undercutting competing workers. I sure the system is probablly junk and needs alot of hype to sell. I would only hope that it it breaks down as often as some of the csms that we encounter in our endeavors.

You mean the guy who doesn't resort to anti-competitive and strong-arm tactics to get a job at an inflated wage?

Magazine

Not geared toward union or non-union, a very good trade magazine and very informative.

I was just shocked and angry to read what was said of our legal endeavors!:flame:

Off track

I'm not going to risk getting off track here, since it was just a jab at non-union electical workers. The whole issue of unions alone would draw a lock on any thread after a short time. This was a sore subject with dealers as well.

I often have a difficult time distinquishing when you are joking and serious, but I can only hope you are not seriously 'angry' about what someone else thinks or says. If so, I need to offer advice back to you that you have on numerous occasions offered to me. "You need to develope thicker skin". :)

And when you really stop and think about it, the casino's main objective is to extract funds from it's patrons, so someone like yourself with some knowledge and 'skilz', as you often put it, is indeed cheating the casino out of it's goals and some funds, of which the casino believes are are rightfully theirs.

am I nthe only person not phased by this? It was an ad marketing to casinos, and we all know to the casinos,a counter is no different than a cheat.

yeah,it's BS, but the company that printed the ad won't care,as we're obviously not their target demographic.
