A little humor at ploppy expense

Not always possible. The count could be positive when you place your bet, but negative by the time it's your turn to play.
The main reason why to stray away from full tables and get a one on one man vs beast game.

ih17, I really don't think it's grammatically correct to speak in such run-on sentences.

Honestly though, if you were sitting in front of some tree trunk, who was betting a 1G a hand, "drunk and losing" and he told you not to DD your A7,,,,,Would you?
A7 vs 6? Heck yeah. I just wounded myself yesterday working in a cubicle, casino brawls can't be any more dangerous.

Something really dodgy that might attract heat if there's a rukus, like splitting 10s... maybe not.

Also, is it just me or do the ploppies only get mad when you take a hit rather than stand?
They get mad when you surrender. I get more stupid remarks when I surrender 15's and 16's vs 10's then with any other play. Saturday the guy next to be is using a betting progression and doing nicely I should add, and then when I surrender it was like a brick wall fell on me. He was all over me. I ruined the run of the cards, I this, I that, its a losing play...dadedada daa...

I told him I'll take my 50% back then a 100% loss anytime.

Shut him up for awhile.

To answer Rollem's question

You asked if ploppies get mad when you hit and not when you stand?

The perfect answer to your question is that they get mad when they lose.
The anger may show up more often on hits/doubles as you suspect, and only on those hits and doubles that the average ploppy does not make. Oh sorry, how can I forget splits. Splitting 9,9 vs anything or 2,2, or 3,3 vs 7 will often get reactions if the result is a loss for them.

The great power of hindsight is their weapon against you as you can easily follow their eyes as they figure what card the dealer would have gotten if you had played it their way. It all goes really to their strict religious beliefs in the All Knowing Mystical Magical Flow of the Cards. We are ignorant SOBs, non believers and they know that the cards have already been set up in a magical order that we disturbed. It is the duty of the righteous to call out for an instant inquesition right there on the table and they often do. Luckily for us, players are not permitted to place other players in the rack (not the one with chips) during a blackjack game.
Forget about telling them about basic strategy. Either you run them off, they run you off or you just play it out and piss them off. You can not talk logic or math to a religious zealot.

Oh but there are exceptions:
A few spoke about asking big players' opinions on what they should do. On a couple of very rare occasions I have had big players pay me to play hands their way. Guy has a several thousand dollar bet and I have a hundred dollar bet. I want to split my 9,9 and he offers me $100 to just stay. Guess what? I stay, I will break even if I lose, win $100 if I push and win $200 if I win the hand, can't get much better than that. Only ran into this kind of situation twice.

As far as those "trees" go. When I was younger I was a pretty tough guy and did not really worry about them. As I have aged, I might have still thought I was tough and probably could get into some real trouble because I still come off pretty much as fearless but: In the last few years there have been several times where I have had security escort me to my car or room (at my request).

Guess I am still making friends in the casino.

This reminds me - about a year ago I was playing Spanish 21 and I hit my 17 to the dealer's ace, causing me to bust and the dealer to make 21, wiping out the table. No word of a lie, the guy sitting next to me shot up from his chair and slapped me right across my face. I was in complete shock! He screamed something like "look what you did, you owe me $50!" in broken English.

The weird part is that nobody did anything. The other players, even the dealer didn't say a word. Even though the slap was more shocking then painful, I had to get up from the table because I didn't want a repeat of what happened.
Funny you mention that, I was slapped at a SP21 table too. And I would have likely won the fight, but that's not something I ever want to happen in a casino. I'll be going to the hospital or the jail and they are both places where a bankroll can easily disappear.

You do have to be careful in these situations. Compulsive gamblers are sick people just like drug addicts and the behavior can be dangerous, desperate and irrational. Beware of any person who is trying to convince himself that you owe him money because that means he's trying to rationalize robbing you.

Never Liked the Term

I never liked the term ploppy. It seems insulting and we have to admit we need them. I prefer the term civilians because they are innocents in our spy game against the evil casinos. They get caught in the crossfire and are casualties. I like some of them and others I like a whole lot! I will admit sometimes they do get in the way!:joker::whip:

I fail to see the ploppy logic here. If you surrender a 16 v. 10, it would be the same as standing as far as the "sacred flow" goes, since no card is drawn either way. Perhaps the magical word "surrender" some how changes the order of the cards. Next time just wave a small white flag at the dealer and see if that helps.

Once again, we agree on everything   :whip:

Absolutely despise the term.

Says alot more about the person using it than the person it refers to, don't you think?

I am sitting at a high limit table with two other players playing a shoe game. The count is in the max bet range and I am at first base. I have A,7 vs dealer 6 and double my bet and luckily draw a perfect 3. Middle guy has 2,3 takes a hit and gets a face and stays, third base also has A,7 but stays. The dealer turns 16, hits a 3, takes both guys money and I get paid double.
IF you hadn't doubled, middle guy would have got a 3 to go with his 2,3, followed by the ten he already got. The dealer would still have got 10, 3 to make 19. This time everyone loses!
But drunk guy sitting in 3rd base is to dumb to realise this, is jealous that you won and he didn't and is just looking for someone to blame. Not really funny, but quite ironic.

Next time say "If you want a team sport try synchronised swimming - that's more your pace jerk" Then run and hide behind a bouncer. :p Always wanted to do that.

I still remember the wonderful 10 minutes I spent playing with some drunken ploppy who shouted at everyone else - "I don't care about me, as long as he/she loses" pointing at me, until he was eventually escorted off the premises (after losing all his money :)).

ploppy fights

I would think the term ploppy is the least offensive term for idiots. Some of the crap a player deals with at tables is unbelievable to say the least. Demographics plays a big part in the type of idiots at the tables. If I was at a smaller out of the way casino and encountered some of the idiots I do at the larger casinos I would probably just leave the whole place. I know local idiots that are well known at the casino can cause you alot of trouble. blackchipjim

zero point zero one percent
unknown amongst the throng he went
a legend in Casino Royal
so strange how for him cards and women fall
there is something about him one can't detect
a mysterious light hearted confidence, charming effect
for you and for i these cards just spell trouble
but zero point zero one takes a double
his bankroll is endless
his luck is stupendous
braggarts, drunks and pure fools
even you and i are just a few of his tools
the throng lay thier bets and hope for good fortune
zero point zero one weighs his options knows what is opportune
zero point zero one is no magician
together they all wait in anticipation

I believe that there are both civilians and ploppies - civilians know not what they do; ploppies believe (inappropriately) in what they do. They deserve to at least be made fun of in forums such as this.

Unfortunately, civilians are frequently taught by ploppies, as good BS appears to be a rare thing at the tables, and myths abound.

I can remember a couple of threads on just what a ploppy is, probably on bj21.com
Till a poor player proves to me that he not only believes in the way he plays but it is his role in life to convert all others at his table through intimidation to play the same way, he is a civilian. Once he starts giving unsolicited wrong advice and intimidates other players, he is a ploppy, of the bully of the table.

I know I am guilty of not always going by my own definition here.

Hey! I think I agree with you!

On another different note, can you recommend the best BJ forums around other than this one? (free, pay)

Thanks
