When you have odd amounts, you are taught in dealer's school to "break down" the bet. You don't try to figure what $153.50 pays. You pull the change off the top and pay the $150 with $225. Then you pay the $3.50 with $5, because they have no quarters, and, guess what, you lose 25 cents -- and God knows how much time -- on the transaction!

Bottom line: I'm not a big fan of this ploy.

Doing this is also going to draw extra attention as the pit will often start double checking this situation, especially when involving a new or inexperienced dealer.

It is one of those things that may seem like a good idea on the surface but in practice does more harm (attention) than good

Exactly Don... cost hands/hour
I hate when I'm playing with 2 others (I try to play heads up or no more than one other) and they're making 57.50 bet with 12.50 bust bet and a 3 dollar bet for the dealer.. I just get outta there.. the games just crawls and I start making mistakes because I'm getting somewhat pissed. :D I do seem to do better with covert hand signals that mimic either that I'm staying or surrender :) I can only get away with this once in a while LOL... works though if it's an obvious surrender/hit... like 15 or 16 against a 10 ... dealer bust me... Hey I wanted to surrender wt*? Pitman runs over... 9/10 I get the honors:) If I didn't bust I just stay quiet and level it off :p

This is for incompetent or tired pits. This is not something your going to find every day.

It tends to happen at casinos that rush to open.

When you find dealers who do this wrong they tend to do other things wrong which can be profitable.

Definitely is very painful... In regards to black jack After a while even the swings don’t borther you.

Its a game that all the decisions have been made before you sit down. You even have decisions made for if you find a more profitable way to make a high percentage over the house.

At first yeah it’s stressful but once you know your playing properly it’s just plastic and paper.

True in NV, but in some states, gaming regs require them to round up if they don't have the change. Those are the states where you'll find a roll of quarters in the tray.

"I don't measure my results by daily wins and losses, I measure by accumulated EV. That way every day is a winning day and in the end the two will come back together."

I used to use this as my signature line on one of the forums. I stopped because I got tired of explaining it. But this is really the mentality a player needs to have. Short term results, whether daily, a number of days, weeks, or even months are irrelevant ....unless you are quitting at that point for good. Blackjack is a game of variance or swings.

I am not a stock market guy, so I hesitate to talk about something out of my wheelhouse, but looking at and measuring your wins and losses short term like every day or after a number of losing days, would be like measuring your stock market wealth every few minutes based on small movements in the market.
