When you have odd amounts, you are taught in dealer's school to "break down" the bet. You don't try to figure what $153.50 pays. You pull the change off the top and pay the $150 with $225. Then you pay the $3.50 with $5, because they have no quarters, and, guess what, you lose 25 cents -- and God knows how much time -- on the transaction!
Bottom line: I'm not a big fan of this ploy.
