advice on Selling books

I am tired of second hand smoke and casino food and am done w/ CC'ing and casinos.

So... I would like to get rid of my books and other "tools"

I am wondering the best way to do so.

Should I sell all the books together on Ebay or list them singularly?

Unfortunately the resale market for used books is pretty dismal. People here might be interested in some of them.

What are the "tools" you are talking about?

I figured selling the whole lot would make it easier to get rid of them all rather than one by one.

The tools I have are a few shoes, discard tray,~150 decks, chips

Do a search for each book individually and see what they're selling for. If you really want to be thorough, track sales for a few weeks to see how fast they go and whether they get a lot of sustained interest.

I always sell my books including for BJs at Amazon. You just have to create a seller account based on your original Amazon account. I have sold half of my BJs books that I didn't need anymore there, probably all within 30 days.

i think if you have an ebay account you can directly post them on half.com

hopefully someone where will pick up the whole lot from you, you have some really good books in there, would make a great start to a beginners library!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think you could really have put together a better listing. I'm no expert on selling stuff, but I've picked up some tips along the way (from my wife, who resells shoes).

(1) If you really want to maximize the value that you get out, you need to know what people are searching for. Your title doesn't mention the discard tray or the card shoe or that this is a set, which might be a mistake. And you've included the word "blackjack" which nobody will search for because there's a cell phone named "Blackjack" which dominates the searches (that is, if you need space, omit the word "blackjack"). "card counting beginner's set" or "card counting casino practice setup blackjack 21" might attract more visitors.

(2) Most people will put "new" or "used" in the description, and if it's used, list the condition that it's in (excellent, good, fair, etc.). Even if it's new, people often list whether it's in the original packaging or still wrapped, etc.

(3) Your picture is really dark. It's difficult to tell where the discard tray is. You might also want to take pictures from different angles and mention that the discard tray holds X decks.

(4) State the importance of your set - tray/shoe matches ones used in Tahoe/Reno/Las Vegas, for example. If you have space, throw in a personal story as well: "Used this setup to win over $5,000 from Nevada casinos; retiring from card counting and selling off my practice equipment." If your books are rare or out of print, mention that they're not available on Amazon.

(5) You're probably being optimistic with the price. Like it or not, non-rare used books sell for a buck or two. There are discard trays selling for as low as $7 on Ebay and shoe/tray sets for $18 (and nobody's bidding on them). Add $15 for your ten books and you'll see that people might be able to put together your set for far less.

If you end up re-listing your set, consider these things. Selling on Ebay isn't straightforward; there's an art to it.

I sell books on amazon.com. You should check there for the true market value of your books. I don't think your ebay auction will have much success, but you never know.

If they dont sell I trash them.

First of all is that $10 per book or $10 for all of them, you need to make it clear.
At $10 bucks for the lot, if I didn't have all but two of them I'd bid on them too.
Since we have sold on Ebay before the world knew what an ebay was, I'll tell you, if someone wins them for $10+$4 shipping you lost your butt. It will cost you more than $20 just in shipping and than the $1.50 in ebay fees, and paypal fees of another $1.00.

Why not just give them away to someone here that needs them and let them pick up the shipping cost.

They will fit into a small box and since they are books,media mail will be fine. A bit more than $4 but not much more. They'll certainly fit in a flat rate priority box, which is under $10.
