basic strategy adjustments with low shoe penetration

Hi,
I can't answer myself the following question: "Should I use basic strategy adjustments for different true counts if the shoe penetration is low?".
My opinion is that low penetration make useless card counting in the betting strategy aspect, but it still make sense when we talk about basic strategy adjustments. Am i RIGHT ? :)

sorry for the stupid question but what is penetration. in my area they have casinos wih 6 decks , manual shoe and manual shuffle.

after they shuffle a player cuts the deck. and its put into the shoe. any penetration on it ?

Low penetration means that you will see fluctuation in your count.
Even though it may only fluctuate a little you should play by what little it does fluctuate. In other words you should still vary your bets and make basic strategy adjustments with the count.

never mind . i have just read that in the casinos i play there is no penetration.. so they just shuffle it normally and give out the cards as usual

My first answer is that you probably shouldn't be playing that game in the first place. But if you insist, go ahead and use as many BS deviations as you can. The majority of your advantage comes from your betting strategy but your playing strategy will help out a bit as well. With shallow penetration you probably won't get many opportunities to adjust your bets or your plays anyway.

Stefman, how bad is the penetration you are asking about?

Runforcover, there is always penetration unless the cards are dealt out of a machine.

runforcover doesn't the dealer then take the portion of the pack infront of the player placed cut card and put that portion at the bottom of the pack?
and then before putting the cards in the shoe, doesn't the dealer place the cut card into the pack? normally then what will happen is that the dealer will continue to deal the cards until she reaches the cut card. at that point she will collect all the cards and reshuffle.
point being when the dealer makes that final cut card placement the penetration for that shoe is established.
so penetration is the amount of the pack that will be dealt before the pack is shuffled again. the more cards dealt from an original pack the better. it's important to have a good gauge of the penetration involved as penetration can affect the true count frequency that presents, which can be meaningful as to how you ramp your bets.
