Carrying cash?

Cashing out at the casino should have generated a CTR, right? So if he gets stopped at the airport and tells the truth, it should be verifiable. I would imagine it might make for some major delays and hassles, possibly even seizure of the cash. But eventually, he'd get it back right? I mean it isn't hard to prove where it came from. Am I missing something?

I know this person. He would not cash out $17,000 at one time. Nor would most people I know.

But on the question of verifiability, I don't think that's the issue. Who want to miss their fight while some TSA agent checks out their story. Also, if the person did NOT cash it out all at once to generate a CTR, then he would have to make up some story to account for all the cash. In any case, he faced delays and complications that could be avoided, and which were avoided as a matter of fact, by concealing the cash before boarding the flight.

Guess he didn't have time to go shopping. Do you actually want me to ask him? BTW, he is a retired Marine Corps general, so he's no dummy. I'm just telling you what happened. He told me he had money in every conceivable place on his person.

Next time I see him, I'll ask him why he was afraid of the money being detected, but I think it is because of the mess TSA might make out of it. He did once have a high position in Homeland Security, if that's a clue.

Wal-Mart, in the section with the luggage. Mine cost about $12. It looks disturbingly like a sanitary belt but it will hold $10-$20K with no problem at all.

So they are more like small fanny packs than a regular belt that has a zipper?

Yes, pretty much. They're a lot smaller and thinner than fanny packs. They are perfectly flat when empty, but will hold a stack of bills at least an inch thick. You wear them all the way under your clothes. Even though they're called "belts" they don't hold your pants up.

I see where your confusion was; there are also actual regular belts that hold a few bills. That's not what we're talking about.

Are we getting off topic chatting about money pouches? I think they're a great idea...a little piece of mind when sitting there. No doubt a lot of people watch the high rollers to find out and then contemplate making a move. I saw it when I was in Vegas last week but luckily security was on the guy before he really made a move. It was a little freaky to watch and I was thankful I had just been chilling in the lounge and not playing at the table.

Yeah, good thing they're banned, since we all know that doing so has effectively prevented gun violence on Chicago city streets!

The ban on guns, like in NYC, has been effective in keeping me from carrying in that city, but I feel at the mercy of the thugs if I should happen to run into someone intent on robbing me. I know that it might actually save my life by the fact that a thief could disarm me and use my gun on me, but OTOH, it is possible that I could get the drop on him and avoid harm to myself. Opponents would say that I wouldn't have a chance and that my risk of bodily harm would be increased dramatically. Proponents would say that a gun at least gives you a chance, and that unarmed you might suffer injury or death by a sadistic or drug crazed thug. Everyone who carries thinks they are better off, and everyone against carrying believes that carrying only makes the streets more dangerous.

If they ever outlaw handguns entirely, I imagine that many otherwise law abiding citizens would feel compelled to carry, since they know that outlaws will continue to carry. They say they'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. I'm too chicken, especially if it carries a mandatory jail sentence.
