Lets admit it sometimes we are all bored waiting for someone to post somthing so we can just let some info out or learn something new. Most other sites have a chatroom feature is it possible to do that here? If not would anyone be interested in a chat room maybe a certain time a few times a week if i hosted it on aol instant messenger?

Chatting

I really like Standard Toaster's suggestion about using A.I.M.
(A.O.L. Instant Messenger) - which does NOT require using "A.O.Hell"

Note: Macintosh's (free) "iChat" uses A.I.M.'s format.

Sounds fine to me.

Actually I would like to have scheduled two chats per week.

We could begin a forum thread where we can talk about [scheduling] subjects to chat about.

The other can be a free-form chat where people can socialize and throw ideas around.

We would need to figure out what time would be best as we have participants from several time zones.

Yeah i was a little worried i didnt know how this would fly with you guys.

But i can easily set up a chat that turns on at a time we decide on. It would have to be after five of course and i was thinking sunday andddddd some weekday? Say sunday at 8:00 eastern time and thursday at the same time?

Dialogoo

There's a chat feature that I use on another project called Dialogoo. It's free and all Ken would have to do is post a link with one line of HTML in it.

One big problem with it is that it's not secure, and anyone can impersonate anyone. Given the nature of what we do we'd have to be very careful what we say to one another on such a chat feature.

I have to agree with AutomaticMonkey with security risks involved with stating some of the more sensitive information concerning specific strategy, locations, action, etc. in a chat forum that could be infiltrated and that you do not neccessarily know everyone there.

There ARE casino executives that monitor this site. How do I know this? I was contacted by one via private message concerning comp room accomodations on last year's Vegas trip (after talking about the subject in a post) in which he offered that if I simply give him my name and player card no., he could get me a comp room at a Harrahs casino. (I politely declined and ended up staying at the motel 6 next to Hooters and MGM).

Im not saying you have to give out any sensitive info. It could have the same rules as apply here. Instead of waiting for a topic to made or a reply to one of your topics i think it would be nice to have a little live support as well once or twice a week. Nothing says you need to give away secrets.

If people really got suspicious there is a way to make sure your talking to they say they are.

For example if we decided to go through an instant messenger route such as aim or yahoo the player would need to either sign up for an account or use an account they already have. Now how can we be sure its not someone using theyre name? Simple, if we had a thread such as post your instant messenger username the person would simply very by doing so. Because only they should have access to both their screen name and bjinfo account.

A lot of work? It may seem so but its really not. It takes literally 30 sec to make a screen name and no more than 30 to say hey look this is me i can prove it.

I think it would be cool to have a buddly list of live support.

My only concern is that it may reduce the number of posts on the forum

it's actually a good idea.

and it would definitely reduce the # of posts on the forum, but would there be a way to revise our online chats and post them up. hahaa, that way, if anyone ever wanted to go back, they can find good information and private information can be erased or blocked or something

another problem is, like me, there are a lot of people who read ONLY and post very little, or never. Will they be able to join in on the chats?

if i hosted an aim chat they could join of course but would we know who they really are? probably not.
Could people mistake a low poster or someone who didnt post at all for a casino? of course but thats nothing different than the normal forum

well if there was good info in the chat the copy and paste combo can be our best friend. There would be no problem moving it to a thread.

But do you really think it would cut back on posts? Im skeptical because im not so sure it would. I think if it was just twice a week thats not enough time for the questions to stop coming in.. hell it may even encourage more posts and questions while eliminating the repetative simple ones.

maybe we can discuss a good time for everyone once or twice a week or if it is even a good idea

edit

this is the link to the room. Let me know if it works
(Dead link: http://chat.aim.com/chats/news-and-finance/blackjack-info)

This room is permenant and should always be open. We can arrange a time for everyone to meet up weekly or even daily.

Once you guys settle on a regular schedule, post another thread detailing the chats. I'll make it a sticky so it will always appear at the top.

Will Do. Im attempting to find a reliable site that can be used to register our bjinfo names instead of aim names.

I see some solutions out there that can integrate into vBulletin.
Have a look at this and see what you think:
