Counting in vegas

Do you guys think that I could get away with using $100 units in vegas using the following spread.

- counts......................................$100
nuetral counts & less than +1tc.......$200
+1tc...........................................$300
+2tc...........................................$600
+3tc...........................................$900
+4tc...........................................$1200 and so on

Ops I thought this was the card counting forum and I don`t know how to move my post.

It can be done, but only by experienced players. You can’t just walk into any casino and start spreading black chips all over the tables. You have to pick your targets and opportunities wisely. You have to know that the casino can take your action. You have to know that the pit will not sweat you. You have to know that surveillance will not be focusing on you. You have to know how to get the money and still be welcome back next time. You have to know that you can get in, play, cash out and get out without incident. If those conditions do not exist, you have to know how to create them. You have to know where to play, when to play and who to play against.

But don’t get ahead of yourself. Those are all things that you don’t have to worry about yet. Spend the next six months perfecting your skills, then the next six months learning the art of Advantage Play. It will be a while before you are ready to put any black chips on the table. By the time you are ready you will know how to do it.

I was just wondering if I could fly to vegas with nothing but cash and go play quarters at all the casinos and then pick one casino to go play blacks at oniy for the purpose of getting a hotel room comped and some meals.

This is a fundamentally different question from your original post. The casinos that offer the best comps may not be the casinos that are best for card counting.

(I've never been comped rooms so I can't speak with expertise ... I've just noticed many comments on this board about comps in Vegas)

You can get a room comped with greens downtown, hell most casinos will comp a mid green player.

I wouldn’t suggest using such a big and blatant spread if you are playing for comps. You won’t last long if they are tracking your play. Use a smaller spread and incorporate some comp counting techniques to keep the game in your favor. Learn how to slow the game down, make the pit rate you at a higher level than you are actually playing, and get some extra credit while you’re not at the tables. There are some good tips in Max Rubin’s book Comp City.

Simply BUYING IN for $500 on the craps table (maybe roll the dice once or twice for $5) at the El Cortez downtown will get you a room comp.

Spreading PURPLE instead of BLACK at the Bellagio, 99% more likely you will get bounced before you ever get a comp.

A comp "trick" (don't know if this will still work in today's crazy airline environment).

When I use to frequently fly to Vegas, there were certain flights that were always overbooked. Often passengers needed to be "bumped". Smart business travelers knew to avoid those flights.

I always booked those flights. Then I went to the airport extra early, and asked to be put on the "bump" list, in case that would be needed. About half the time I did get bumped. That meant I had to wait a *whole* 3 hours for the next flight, got $100 cash for my trouble, and a voucher for a free flight to Vegas the next time I go.

So I arrived in Vegas sometimes 3 hours later than normal, it's not like Vegas was going to close, or that I would miss the 'important' business meeting.

I did notice that the standard "reward" for getting bumped has been raised to $200 recently.

What airlines do you fly?

I've actually never seen a reward that LOW. Usually the first offer is $300 (for short flights or for a few hours' delay) or $400 (for long flights or for an overnight delay), and I've seen the offers escalate as high as $550.

I usually fly Southwest, America West (RIP), National (RIP), United (lol almost RIP) and Virgin America. Now that I write that out, maybe there's a correlation between grossly overbooking flights and handing out large awards and going under ...

I saw a maniac over at flyertalk try to buy a ticket departing O'Hare on a crowded day in bad weather, solely for the purpose of getting bumped and collecting travel vouchers. I think he got bumped like 5 times.
