ok, i sort of understand that. lol.
but now after a bit more experience i'm begining to understand callipygian's cautionary note about taking odds.
shwew, the dice really do seem to have eyes and the swings can be horrendous.

i guess i'm still trying to figure this free odds thing out.
how i'm understanding it is that well of course taking free odds doesn't help one way or the other as far as is the point gonna be made or not.
but on the other hand the free odds bet doesn't carry a house edge one way or the other, if you win your paid according to the true chances of making the point.
i guess that's right. so i'm not sure but just say the house let you make a free odds bet on some point with out having to have first made a pass line bet. so does that mean that in that imaginary case the free odds bet would effectively be as fair a bet as a coin flip sort of thing in the long run?

Here's a simple way of looking at it , Fr0gman. Suppose you're at a table and you find a player flat betting only, playing the pass line for example, with no bet in back. You ask him if you can play his odds bet every time. This scenario would put you mathematically even with the house all night, just like the coin flip. Comprende?

I've never seen it as an issue. I guess it depends on the house policy. The best scenario is when playing next to a novice woman who doesn't have a big BR and is just learning. Just make a verbal deal with her (no, not that kind!) and tell her you'll front the odds as a separate bet until she understands the math behind it.That way it's better EV for you and she's getting an education at the same time. Who knows? You both might get "lucky".

Me neither, but then again, you don't see many folks jumping on those opportunities.
