Depth charging with an unbalanced count?

I was recently re-reading the section on depth charging in Blackbelt in BJ and one thing I noticed is Snyder's comments on how the Red 7 isn't recommended for depth charging. However, that leaves questions on what exactly "not recommended" means. Is it impossible to gain an advantage with an unbalanced count or is the advantage just lessened?

Anybody got thoughts on this?

Depth-charging relies most heavily on strategy-play deviations from BS,
where as R7 is primarily reliant on bet-variations tied to the count.

AndDCing in general is a remnant strategy for deeply dealt 1-2D games,
which largely are not to be found. zg

My nearest casinos are in Wendover for the time being and they are generally pretty deeply dealt. In fact, I actually asked a dealer once how deep into the deck she dealt and she said, "I just deal until there aren't enough cards for another round."

I know that there are indices for Red 7 and other unbalanced counts as well. I just don't know if I can get an advantage using them in the games I have available to me. Of course, the other option is to learn Zen but honestly I just don't think I could handle it.

The obvious compromise for Wendover games and you is to use a smaller spread.
But personally I would not use a smaller spread, just more "gambits". zg
