Effects of the movie 21

It like anything that comes out in the movies 21- BlackJak Rounders- Poker,
Two for the money - sports betting,
They all likely increase the industry for a short while after the release etc. However all these areas require extensive study and money management to be successful. Most will not put the time forth to gain the experience.

I would say that by now any and all effects from 21 have been wiped out. Right after the movie was released on DVD, there were a ton of people playing thinking they could count. What it did do was make a ton of money for the casino at the time, because few to none of these players had put in the time it takes to learn BS, learn a counting system, and learn a bankroll management system. Though it did help the AP's at the time, because the new "counters" were for the most part a joke and the casinos thought almost anyone doing something that resembled counting was another hack that had seen 21 (cover is cover, I won't knock it).
Though I will say, I liked the movie for entertainment value only, same as I like most movies that deal with gambling, and it always gives me the impulse to go sit at the felt after I watch it.

I was at a table yesterday and the dealer goes "Yeah I went on my first vacation in three years last month, so excited to get away from the casino. You know what movie they were showing on the flight? That damn 21!!"
Later she dealt me a soft 18 and I motion to hit, she asks if I'm sure, and I get a 2 for the 20. She then looks at me and says "Wow! What's the count?" and I go "What?" and she says "Yeah like in the movie 21! What's the count? hahaha"

A trailer for the movie 21 got me intrigued, after which I read Bringing Down the House and Busting Vegas, which freshly introduced me to the idea of advantage play. So I'd say because of the movie, I know that card counting exists; before then, I had in inkling there were legitimate ways to have an advantage at a casino. To be fair, though, I also wasn't 21 at the time so didn't know much of anything about casinos!
Too Much Published Incorrect Information
Perhaps getting off topic, but I just want to add that when I first started reading books about card counting, I didn't read all the "correct" books. I read KO (which was good) and then another book which discussed how to read "streaks" of cards. Fortunately I figured out that it was mathematically incorrect, but it's very sad how much incorrect information is published, especially for when I just started learning and was rapidly absorbing information. Admittedly this site helped steer me to the "correct" books and authors, and http://www.blackjackincolor.com was invaluable, but other new counters could be playing losing systems without knowing it. I only wish I knew about BJ Attack, Bluebook, Professional BJ, etc. when I started learning.

I saw the movie before I started counting. Of course I knew that hollywood over glamourized a lot of things (they always do). Watching the movie never inspired me to become a counter, I just thought to myself "pretty cool movie" and haven't seen it again since.
I got into it because I wanted a 2nd income without the hassle of attaining a 2nd job. The movie "The Last Casino" was better than 21.
Of those successful/skilled counters that were influenced by the movie 21, I wonder how many would have discovered blackjack by other means anyway?

Had to share after my last trip.
Playing at a table midday, a few sets of hands come out almost purely small cards. The TC is in the ball park of 2-3, a player sitting in 2 spot jumps his bet way up. The PB just happened to be standing there checking the chip rack. Asks the player, "so are you counting on us" semi seriously. Player responds, "oh come on you see all these low cards, has to be a good set coming, I mean I saw 21". PB responds "gotcha, well you are the type of counter we like here at the casino, keep right on doing what you are doing."
