first post, been reading for months, can shine some light, and am certainly interested in this, i've been a high stakes poker player for some years now and understand OP
OP, recognize they are giving you advice and not being rude, also realize that it is like poker in the sense that if you are ahead of the curve it is silly to let others in on it as you in return make less money, they are not trying to be mean here
sidenote, have really learned a lot as a lurker here, thanks for all the posts, will try to contribute more as I become a stronger player.

we can make more playing poker, but sometimes it is tough dealing with the same thing daily and taking a pay cut to try and tackle another venue is something that intrigues me, my BR is well into the mid 6 figs and I have just been learning for months playing as a greeny, I feel the swings more with live poker as well as blackjack and even feel strange losing a lot playing blackjack even though my poker swings are in the 5 figure area about 5-10 times a month.blackriver said:From grinding mid/highstakes poker online for 5 years. Still doing good, but thought I could make a lot more money splitting my time between the two. If I can't make a lot with blackjack then its not worth the travel and giving up time I could be playing poker. Although I'm frustrated I understand what tis must look like. I'm not elaborating more to keep private and to be modest
like anything else, the variance is increasing the lower your skill level, about 95-99% of people who have studied poker and tried to play full time for the past bunch of years still breakeven. People think they can wong in and just beat it within a year, that is just almost always not the case. It took me a long time to get to where I am at. The 2 games are somewhat similar and that draws me to blackjack. With this all being said, poker is similar to how blackjack evolved in the fact that over time more material comes out and the games dry up, such as the floors being more advanced and more book publications. Due to this, the playing field levels some and the money is not as strong. I can make nowhere near what I made in 2009 in poker again most likely just because all the regulars have evolved and thus my overall winrate has suffered, also creating heavier swings. I have also burnt out some and am looking for a new venue to try for a little to challenge myself and take a slight break from pokerassume_R said:What do you estimate your hourly EV and variance of poker are? Just to compare it to blackjack.
