1. Fatness
2. Anxiety
3. Depression

So make your habit for physical exercise..

I read somewhere that counting exercises the mind, inhibiting the onset of age-related conditions such as alzheimer's disease.

Now, if I could just remember where I read that...

I play a wong out, table-hopping style. You should see the amount of jumping up and running I do during my BJ sessions. ;)

Physical exercise helps the body, but a lot of AP's also have difficulties of the mind. Whether it is caused by AP, or aggravated by it, or that AP simply attracts those whom already tread the borderline of sanity I am not sure.

Being physical exercise also has mental benefits it may ameliorate some of our mental problems too.

When the casino bosses detect a counter and try to chase her out of the casino, all the running can provide a good cardiovascular workout...just like in the movie :)

blackjack is a game where you mostly lose more hands than you win even if you are winning money.

just my opinion but those losing hands are probably not a good thing for the health of ones brain.
the normal reaction of a blackjack player to a losing hand is a stressful experience.
stress is known to have a potential for damaging the hipocampus.
(Dead link: http://www.brainsource.com/stress_&_health.htm)

my solution for what it is worth, lol, is too expect to lose and essentially not care. that is purposely work at deadening the emotional response to losing so many hands, of getting so many crummy hands dealt, sort of thing.

and oh yeah, exercise, try and get plenty.

You guys aren't doing enough scouting. I walk miles every day when in Vegas going form casino to casino and checking every game.

As for loneliness, get some team mates.

health and longevity

I'm not a doctor but I stayed at a holiday inn express last nite. If you are talking about mortality rates in gamblers I'm sure it's not one to strive for. You will find plenty of card counting books that deal with the players needs one of being which is excersize. The mind aspect of counting I may address with some notes. My dear mother God bless her soul did cross word puzzles for years it staved off the effects of dibilitating minds problems. Theree was a lady who loved to play cards in the nursing home which had the same effect both lived with sound minds into thier mid 80s. If they could of walked during thier stay with proper excersize they could have lived longer.

Unhealthy AP?

We can choose what we eat and if we exercise. I will take the dangers of the casino vs:

soldier
cop
fire fighter
construction worker
deep sea fishing
sewage worker
trash collector
and
casino worker:joker::whip:

Hmm. Doctors are required to have spent several years taking college courses. Judging from the grammar errors in your post I find it very difficult to believe that you are any kind of a doctor, much less a college graduate. But if indeed you are a doctor, then you obviously spent a lot of hours in classrooms sitting on your behind and getting fat, experiencing anxiety over upcoming tests, exams, and admission to graduate school, etc. You must still spend many hours sitting on your behind going over charts, peering into a microscope and trying not to fall asleep at boring AMA lectures. You come into contact with sick patients who may spread diseases to you and obviously your job doesn't allow for much on the job exercise, except for the 18 holes of golf you play every Friday, which isn't actually on the job exercise and leads to the point of this post: Most jobs probably don't allow for on the job exercise and anyone can exercise off the clock if they so choose. Furthermore, most of us do not play Blackjack as a full time profession but rather as a leisure activity. Your point that everyone should exercise is well taken, but why would you single out Blackjack players? We're no different than any other segment of society.

The "doctor" probably has English as a second language, so perhaps we can give him a break on his grammar.

However his post seems out of place on a Blackjack forum. Maybe this should be moved to the Zen section. Or, depending on what kind of doctor our "doctor" is, we could move this to the voodoo section.

Move it to Zzone if he wants to debate allopathy vs, Holistic. Or, whether the flu vaccine is good for people. zg

This statement is just silly. To make the argument that any particular sedentary game causes disease is suspect at best.

Yes, place this thread in the voodoo section...

It wasn't just the grammar, his reasoning didn't seem very logical or well thought out.

Now, I'm not a doctor and I don't even play one on TV...but I do like to play doctor! And one can get get a good deal of vigorous physical activity in doing so. :toast:
