I'm not a doctor but I stayed at a holiday inn express last nite.
Funniest line in a while, Jim. Very good!

I am wondering about the toll that living in Vegas can take on an AP. When I visited vegas 3 or 4 times a year, I always crammed many hours of play into a week or 10 days, taking naps throughout the day in order to play different shifts, definately not getting enough sleep and not eating on any kind of regualr schedule. But it was only for a short period of a week or so at a time. Now that I reside in vegas parttime and am spending much more time in the desert, these short periods turn into much longer periods of bad sleeping and eating habits. In addition, the clubs here stay open until dawn and I am a block off and facing the strip, so the bright lights all nite long are also conducive to throwing your schedule out of wack. This poor sleeping and eating schedule is something that you don't really think about when planning a move like this. I am going to have to work alot harder at maintaining a better schedule.

At least in AC, you could jog up and down the boardwalk.
Yes I make it a point to walk the Hilton-Showboat distance at least once per day. Very easy on the feet due to the springiness. And sometimes I do a weightlifting workout on the beach.

You'll also find that by exercising before you play BJ, your game will improve as you'll have an easier time counting, will make less mistakes, and will be able to play longer.

Boardwalk may be easier on the feet due to springiness, but can also be bad because of the unevenness of the boards, holes and nails and pieces of wood jutting out from that decaying peice of crap. Plus if you stop for a pretzel or any food along the way, those damn flying sea rats will attack you! Why not use the facilities in the hotel to workout rather than the beach?? Or did that have some sort of comical meaning that went over my head?

That is a pretty decent walk by the way. I like to walk from Taj to trop once per trip. On the way back I only walk part way then catch the trump shuttle back north. I figure I get enough milage walking the casino floors. Especially over at borgata. Spend a half day there playing and I've walked a couple miles!

Not me, I swing kettlebell, and my entire gym fits in a small bag in the trunk of my car. I suppose I could bring it into the hotel to use, but they might get very upset about that. Especially if I let go! Swinging on an empty beach allows me to work out until exhaustion, without having to worry about killing anyone or smashing something if I let fly a 52 lb. KB. I can't even do that kind of workout at home. Last winter I polar-beared after my workout.:yikes:

Foxwoods is like that with the MGM extension now, it's a 10-15 minute walk from one end of the casino to the other. You feel like you are crossing the river Styx into Hell when you go from MGM to Foxwoods. That's just in terms of atmosphere and amenities, the good games can be found anywhere.

If only they had a free shuttle to the Borgata! I agree Jason that you can get quite a workout just wonging all day at the Borgata. I know I must walk a few miles each day whenever I'm in AC whether it be wonging or scouting the different games. Thankfully Showbat and the Hilton don't have good games so we can cut our scouting by about oh a mile. ;) I was tempted to go today to AC but with it being freezing cold and windy, eh I passed.

Don't feel bad Thunder, weather in Vegas isn't much better. Been dropping into the 20's at night and only up to very low 40's during the day. :( I always found bad weather days a great time to go to AC, specially big snow days. They have the usual amount of tables open (what ever was scheduled for that particular day) and far fewer players. :)

effects of gaming

I myself use the casinos for a break in my normally physical and sometimes dangerous job. For a person that is sedative in nature either by choice maybe the stress of playing may indeed have negative effects on your overall health. You have to take into account alot of different factors of the person before making that broad of statement. I had two people in my life that lived into their mid to late eighties both on different ends of the spectrum. One very active and the other sedative in life style so I don't buy the outside influence factors. You will live as long as you were suppose to and barring certain activies outside factors other than genetics has no effect on your longevity.

When it comes to Health Issues and BJ, A.P.'s often have to have means to deal with, avoid, and/or discharge stress.

If one experiences stress, (when there is cash at risk), they are not "cut out" to be an A.P.

Winning is Healthy

One can bet in a way that losing does not cause undue stress.

One can take their winnings and go get a checkup
and/or
Purchase premium health insurance
and/or
Purchase healthy food

I almost stated healthy expensive food, probably close to the truth:joker::whip:

Stress, confusion, insomnia or sleeping disorder, and angst, euphoria, depression to name a few. In my case, slight OCD caused by those 2.5 hour marathons that produce little winnings.

Alcoholism.

Stress of overbetting

If playing a game causes you to stress then you are overbetting or using money you can ill afford to lose. This a basic rule that aps are suppose to play by and should be credo for all thinking of playing blackjack for profit. I for the life of me don't understand why someone would play a game that stresses you out?

Many people overbet but do not feel stress. Other people underbet, but are still stressed out of their minds. The causes (and cures) of the stress can be somewhat involved.

Leaveawinner,

You made me smile when I saw that your post had referred to:

" … those 2.5 hour marathons"

Naturally, everyone of us is unique in some ways.

Years ago I was prone to playing 24 hour stretches without so much as
changing my seat. I drank a lotta' coffee and took pee breaks as needed,
but many many times I would play very very long sessions, betting black.

I never exceeded 25 hrs.

I just had a funny thought:

If accused of excessive gambling, I would defend myself,
saying it was not excessive, as I was only betting one hand at a time.
