Graduating to Black

when you are playing black at smaller casinos they are watching everything at the black tables

say you have $2k worth of chips...well a swing negative on the cards could wipe that stack out in minutes...so you wouldnt want to be pocketing them. And if you have $10k worth of chips...they are going to be watching like a hawk....particularly when they have to refill the tray and wonder why you have say...15 chips infront of you and they are loading 15 grand worth back in. Generally black and up is just worth leaving on the table...they are watching and you become more suspicious if you try to hide it i think personally ;)

majestic star in gary indiana (its 2 boats).. in fact, i didnt play for 3 months and they sent me free $5 for each week of august, but i threw it out cuz i wasnt planning on going, so what do they do? they send me a free hotel, free 5 entries in a $100,000 drawing, another free $5, and a free $24 in food.. i guess they want me back!
I'm sure plenty of people received promos like this. In early August, less than 10 miles away the new Four Winds Casino opened in New Buffalo, MI. It's huge......3,500 machines and 200 tables. I was there on a Friday afternoon 2 weeks after the opening and it was pretty busy.....so I imagine the casino in Indiana is felling the pain. Lots of people from SW MI no longer have to go to IN to play.

In regards to black chips and ratholing........

I had about 2 hrs to play when I was there and bought in at a $10 table with $80. Three other guys sat down at the same time and bought in with 80, 80, and 100.....the table was now full. The dealer was a nice guy but very new and pretty slow. We were all winning. I doubled my buy in and colored up to get a black and put it in my pocket figuring if I lost the chips on the table, i'd leave. The double downs were very kind to me and I kept on winning.

The guy at 3rd base with the 100 buy in colored up ($320) and left the table to cash out. He was back in a few minutes and said he was missing one black chip. when he colored up I saw his chips but did not watch when the dealer gave him the blacks. The pit was called over and they discussed it. She said that the blacks balanced....he had 3 and she pointed at me saying ........"and he has one in his pocket." I was a little surprised since I'm a red chip player with not a lot of experience holding blacks.

Another supervisor was called over to discuss it. The player apparently lost it on the way to the window. He looked for it on the floor.....try finding anything smaller than a baseball on casino carpeting. I had to leave (up $120) and they were still talking. They offered him some buffet comps but were adamant about not replacing the chip.

Two weeks ago I was playing at Kewadin in Sault Ste. Marie at a 5-200 table. Two couple and I were playing 5-25 mostly 5-15 per hand. Suddenly somewhat sat next to me and plunked down 4 greens.....hit a BJ and started playing blacks betting 100-200. With 15 seconds the Pit was at my shoulder....I was at 3rd base. He appeared to know the player but he stuck very close for the 20 minutes the guy played. Blacks are the biggest chip here and it's unusual to see layers betting more than 50 a hand.

Hug your "wife" and deposit several chips in her purse at the same time.
If your wife is anything like mine, it already happens that way.

kind of off topic, but the horseshoe in hammond indiana (and probably all horseshoes) when i asked what is their highest slot denomination, they replied "we have $25 and $100 slots" which i think is a lie, but stupid me, i was standing right by them, i should have actually went in there and looked for one, but i have never seen a slot higher than $5 (6 other casinos), and if i had to guess, $100 slots would be very rare, but next time i go i will check it out

Just ask John Daly, the golfer, whether $500 slots exist lol.

I think he lost about $650,000 in one night, after winning a tournament that day.

Of course he was in Vegas.

Nobody's ever accused him of being smart lol.

Just last weekend I was at one of the Vegas strip "carpet joints", and it was interesting to see how black chips were not that big of a deal. The pit would still come by and check on how many blacks were at the table (asking me how many I had one in front of me one time), but there wasn't any real concern when I had what I thought was a tower of blacks in front of me later. (that's a good feeling, btw).

However, when I walked over the cashier with a few yellows, that's when they had to call ahead to the cashier, much like a smaller Indian joint and their black chips :)

Too bad I won't have a chance to learn the procedures when $5,000 chips are in play.
