What are you talking about? A fact's a fact- no business advertises it's product to the general public as something for homosexuals because such an ad is going to turn off more people than it turns on.Lonesome Gambler said:I'd prefer it if this kind of homophobic garbage remained in the Zen Zone.
Unawares to me, apparently they have come out to the general public. The front page story of the Atlantic City Press August 29 launched the promotion for their recent gay out weekend, sept 25-27, which they claim was such a success that they are planning a number of similar weekends for 2010. So, I guess the presence of their booth at the gay even should have been no surprise.Automatic Monkey said:It's ridiculous. The behavior is still considered disreputable by a majority of the population and the only reason Harrah's chose to associate themselves with it is because they figured they were in a venue where it wouldn't get out to the general public. If they really want to make a statement, let them put a billboard up on the AC Expressway that says "Harrah's- The Casino for Homosexuals" and then I'll believe they've really made a commitment to a position on this controversial social issue.
I agree with the second part of your point, as even most people who don't consider homosexuality "behavior" would roll their eyes at this promotion (myself included). But you've made your outrage at other peoples' personal sexual preferences loud in clear in many previous posts, and I think that it belongs in the Zen Zone, where there's plenty of other irrational and fallacious claims to be ignored by simply not clicking the link.Automatic Monkey said:What are you talking about? If Harrah's did advertise itself as "the gay-friendly casino" outside of a gay pride rally, do you think it would help or hurt business? You have to be very careful with impression advertising because it might take 100 positive impressions to win a customer, but only one bad impression to lose a customer. Anyone in marketing knows how destructive an offensive ad can be, which is why they take great pains to avoid negative stereotypes, double-entendres etc. It could result in a boycott.
Monkey is just stating his opinion, as he is entitled to do. I take full responsibility for this thread which by the direction it took probably should have been in the Z zone. That wasn't my intention when I began the thread. Was just noting the Harrah's presence at this event, which I found surprising. I now, see that it really isn't that surprising. My apologies.Lonesome Gambler said:I agree with the second part of your point, as even most people who don't consider homosexuality "behavior" would roll their eyes at this promotion (myself included). But in regards to the original topic, for Harrah's to claim that they're the "gay-friendly" casino is ridiculous and, while it's nice that they're willing to show support to the gay and lesbian community, I think their true intentions are pretty clear.
No need to apologize. In fact, most of the comments made in the thread were in good humor and not offensive at all, I just tire reading about AM's stance on homosexuals, just as I would if we had any other sort of bigoted poster making racist remarks. Anyway, I'm probably doing more to derail this thread at this point than anyone, so I'll leave it at that.kewljason said:Monkey is just stating his opinion, as he is entitled to do. I wasn't giving my opinion of homosexuals, just my opinion of what that kind of promotion could do to a casino from a marketing perspective. When you're a national brand you are best served by avoiding controversy of any kind, be it political, religious, sexual or social, because you have to avoid offending almost every demographic and geographic. Even people with neutral or positive feelings about the subject matter might not want their choice of casino (or car, or soft drink) to be seen as advocacy for a cause. They just want to go to a casino.Lonesome Gambler said:No need to apologize. Agreed, and well-stated.Automatic Monkey said:When you're a national brand you are best served by avoiding controversy of any kind, be it political, religious, sexual or social, because you have to avoid offending almost every demographic and geographic. im more curious to know why u feel the need to let us all know that u ATTEND GAY AND LESBIAN FESTIVALS.kewljason said:Harrah's had a booth set up at the Philadelphia gay/lesbian festival today proclaiming themselves as the "gay-friendly casino". I suppose next week they will be at a different event, proclaiming themselves "the whatever-that event is-friendly casino".

If King Stork locks this thread, I'll start a new one in the ZenZone titled "Should we still call them HET?"daddybo said:PPPlease, let's leave the lid on Pandora's box.
Thread Locked... oops, I don't have the power.
I don't see why you are choosing to make that the issue, but I will answer.sevencard2003 said:im more curious to know why u feel the need to let us all know that u ATTEND GAY AND LESBIAN FESTIVALS.
Yes, but the important thing is . . . were they serving free food?! :grin:kewljason said:I don't see why you are choosing to make that the issue, but I will answer.
I live in the center city district of a major city. A diverse area that celebrates many different culturals and ethnicities. In the past two months I have attended the Polish Pulaski Day Parade, The German Von Steubin Day Parade as well as the Puerto Rican festival. I am not polish, german nor Puerto Rican.
Had I seen the harrah's booth at the Puerto Rican festival, with Harrah's claiming to be the Puerto Rican friendly casino, my post would have been identical. You are choosing to focus on the wrong aspect of the post, my friend.
Casinos do not have Asian rooms, they have rooms with Asian games that all people are invited to play. Just like the VP machines at the bar aren't just for Irish.shadroch said:Evidently, it's okay for casinos to have Asian rooms for those folks to play in, but not okay to market themselves to another slice of the economic pie.
While I haven't noticed them in Vegas, Asian Gambling rooms exist in several AC casinos.
