What separates the goats from the sheep is that goats don't blindly follow.

So the dealer looks in his little mirror and sees either the card that makes a BJ,or nothing. You don't need to study his body language to find that out.
You're right that dealer tells are insignifcant in peek games. But they must be referring to games where the dealer actually looks at the card. I'm sure there are still games like this out there somewhere...

They WROTE about it. Times have changed. Casinos that allow their dealers to peak at their hole card have gone the way of the Buffalo.I know of exactly one casino that allows this, and its 300 miles from anywhere.

I can't comment on the avalibility of games that you could still play tells on, but as to supercool's comment about not all dealers giving tells, i think this is possibly wrong. Don't misunderstand me, i can't play tells myself, but i do know people who have an amazing capacity to read body language. Look at the top poker players, these guys will go to incredible lengths to hide anything that could be read, because they know that their opponent will be able to read the slightest thing whether they are aware of it or not. Everyone gives out unitentional signals, your ability to use them is just based on how skilled you are at reading them.

When the dealer checks for an Ace under her 10 I will just blurt out you got the 10 under that, or you got Junk, and look at her reaction. Some dealers are easy reads, while others are impossible. I am always freindly and talkative, with the dealers and pitt critters, so their reaction will often give you a read on that dealer.

There could be good dealers that dont give off tells if they tried really hard, but the thing is they dont care enough to try hard not to give off tells, so they probably will give a good player something to read. It just doesn't benefit the dealer really to not give off tells. Unless they took a percentage of the table wins or something like that.

You can't "tell" what you do not know. The entire idea behind switching to mirrors for the dealers to check BJ was to eliminate the dealers knowledge of his hole card.
