You can tell what the chips are by the stripes or the number on the top.
You can tell the top chip by that. Suppose I have a stack of six chips red and green and a color blind dealer?

How do you think surveillance tells the difference in a stack with black and white film? They look at the stripes on the side of the chip. Unless they have bad cameras, and then you can get away with murder on cheating payouts, but that's another subject.

They use film?

I'm colorblind and almost always have no problem with the chips. Although the other day at a new store I had a much tougher time distinguishing them. Actually bet a green and three reds instead of four reds. I was surprised when I won the hand

Ok, I don't know what the color chips are worth, but I'm going to take a shot and guess. Reds are worth 5.....Green are worth.....25? So you bet 40 instead of 20....

If I finally deduced what these colors are worth, I will be very happy indeed.

I've just been practicing....I swear I didn't stop after a month last summer and pick it back up about a month ago.

Also....I've kinda......never been to a casino.

Nothing to be ashamed about there. It's just that, through reading these boards, any blackjack books, or playing any sort of computerized blackjack you would have known what color nearly all chips are. Some variations at the high denomination levels but still, red and green are pretty much universal.

Well, I knew the colors of the chips, just not what values the colors were (besides black of course). I didn't really care until recently, so whenever the colors were mentioned I tried to deduce their relative value based on the context. It....WORKED!

Also, not really playing any computerized blackjack either. Just have a little DIY card table (ok, a folding table with a towel on it) and a poker chip set I bought a few months back for home games. And six decks of course.

I don't really have the money to spend at this point on CV, so I just run my own little various sims manually using either graph paper to keep my results, or for the practical sims my little card table get up.

Green/Red color blindness is not rare. most CB people can't tell shades of brown/green/blue, as I understand it. I'm classified as being color blindbecause I can't pick numbers out of a field of brown and green. It's never effected me in real life.

For me it's almost the same. Although I can see with both eyes, I have a very weak binocular vision. I newer knew until I took driving lessons :p. Still got my licence but would never take a job focused on driving.
I have many "rock" haulers driving around at 84,000 lbs. on the highway and I think they all have "very weak binocular vision. ":eek:

Anyone who can't tell red from green doesn't have much future in a BJ pit.
Wha???? I'm red-green colorblind and I do just fine :)

The problem with these conversations is no normal-sighted person knows what it's like to be colorblind and no colorblind person knows what it's like to be normal-sighted. There are also many different types of colorblindness. For me personally, I would not ever attempt to deal roulette. But I can assure, you I would have no problem performing any other job in a casino.

Also, at maybe 5% of casinos, the red and green chips look similar to me (usually have trouble at casinos which use ceramic chips), but even then I can look at the spots or the edges (or even read the number 5 or 25 on the chip) if I really have to.

The Federal Government tells me I am color blind. I've never noticed it in real life, but both in the Army and at a later date for another Federal agency, I failed their C.B. test.
Sadly, Social Security does not recognize color blindness as a disability.
My sister is the same. She fails the test every time, but has never really noticed a problem. And I can still ask her if something is blue or purple (the two colors I struggle the most with) and get the right answer. Like I say there are many different types of colorblindness. My father could not distinguish between red and yellow traffic lights (although as with chips, it should be pointed out that there are other clues, notably the position of the light). Fortunately I mostly don't have this problem, though I do usually stop at flashing yellows just in case :)

You mean you sometimes bet red or green?

That's relatively uncommon. The R-G colorblind gene is carried on the X chromosome and for a female to be colorblind, both X chromosomes must carry the trait. That means your father is colorblind and your mother is a carrier for it as well.
