Alright, I know the basic rules for blackjack im 21 ive been to Vegas twice, and Atlantic City once, and am going back to vegas next month, Im no pro but I like to play blackjack, poker etc. but my Dad and I usually play single deck blackjack together so I was wondering if I count the Aces and he counts the tens if we have a advantage etc. or if you know a good easy method? I dont want anything real confusing because we go to win a little $ and have fun, I dont want it to be like work ya know? Also how much more should you bet if we use this system etc when its to our advantage? Any help would be appreciated!

Hopefully you aren't playing single deck BJ in Atlantic City. It's a terrible game with a huge edge.Same with most Vegas single deck.These games pay $6-5 on a blackjack,instead of the traditional $3-2. In easy terms,playing $10 a hand,you are getting $12 instead of $15 for your BJs.Play the shoe games,they have a lower house edge.
I don't see any advantage you can gain by doing the method you mention. None.

How would counting the tens and aces not give you and advantage? especally on a single deck say with 3-4 people? over 5 people they shuffle to much so i go to the shoe.. Im not saying your wrong cause im sure you know more than me.. just wondering?

I'm famously bad at deck estimation, but you look, you estimate, and if it comes down to it, you ask "hey, how many decks are in there?". The answer is usually one, two, six, or eight. And let's face it, one and two are easy.

A simple answer although the number of decks in a shoe won't help you with your experience is ask the dealer. The easiest counting system is not counting A's and 10's ignoring other cards but counting 10's and 5's although it's also of little use and will probably cost you additional money if you spread your bets.

More 10's are in your favor and more 5's are in the dealers favor because they must hit 12 thru 16 and a 5 will give them a made hand 17-21.

Buy a BJ basic stratagy card in the gift shop, refer to it every hand for your decisions, hope to get lucky and play for entertainment. You're 100's of study hours away from having an advantage over the house so just enjoy your trip with dad and limit your losses to your personal comfort.

An Easy One

If you have that little time to prepare, you may want to try the Ace/ Five Count. It won't give you much of an advantage, but should be adequate for your recreational purposes and betting level. You'll find it in Wizard of Odds and I believe our own Fred Renzey discusses it also.

First learn the BS for DD and shoe games with and without S17. Throw in with and without DAS. And late surrender just in case. Or at least bring them with you so you can refer to it. Play at full tables.

If you have a month, you could probably learn KO. Very simple - no deck estimation. Something to try - if you lose the count or it's too much like work, forget about it.

Maybe just use a perfect insurance count so you'd at least know when taking insurance is positive EV. He could count the 10's and you could count the other cards and compare notes lol.

But, hey, most important thing is have fun with your dad

one way to scope out a table as far as how many decks they are dealing is by just looking at the discard tray. they are a certain height for double deck, six deck and eight deck.
but i did see a joint once that had an eight deck discard tray but was dealing six decks.

First thanks everyone for the responses I looked this up last night and started practicing... i think i can pull this system off in a month, not perfect but practice makes perfect.. HI-LO Blackjack Card Counting System

Your bets should be based on the size of your bankroll, your advantage at each TC, your tolerance for risk, the size of your spread and the style of your play.
