Is 8 decks worth playing at all ?

But when you're cutting, say, a deck off a double-deck, doesn't it have a more deleterious effect on the original EV for a double decker than cutting the same deck off a six-decker?
Yes. But if you are hinting that the same principle should apply when comparing 6 and 8 decks, it doesn't. 6 and 8 decks are so very similar, again assuming rules are identicle, house edge differential of .03. Where as 2 decks vs 6 decks are not nearly as similar. Much greater intial house edge differential. It's an apples to oranges thing. As I said you can verify this with CVCX. Can even use the free calulator on the site.

like Tarzan, my knowledge of canada comes from south park. lol "Blame Canada" Blame Canada! It seems that everything has gone wrong, since Canada came along. Blame Canada! Blame Canada! the're not even a real country anyway." --south park blame canada song

I play a game in Canada that I can get 5/6 on a regular basis. You have stated twice that you cannot get good pen in Canada-twice I have stated otherwise(from experience-not some magazine)as have others.

Seems that Canada, like most places, you need to shop around for decent pen. I have never played there and to be honest I wasn't up to date on the canadian casino situation. I thought there were far fewer casinos than the hundred number mentioned earlier. I figured why travel to a place that has winter 9 months a year and goofy french speaking people to play 6 and 8 deckers. I can do that here at home where most people speak chinese at the tables. lol Having learned that Canada has far greater number of casinos and a larger variety of games (# decks) than I had thought, I may have to take a more serious look at canada.

Flash there is a lot of incorrect information in this post. There are almost 100 casinos in Canada. There are 2,4,6, and 8 deck games. Some have games with penetration of 90%, some with brutal 65%. Some casinos are H17 many are S17. Some 8 deckers in Canada have a house edge as low as .36% and some have 6 deckers with .78%. While a lot of the casinos definitely are garbage there are some gems out there too. I don't know your source for information but its not exactly accurate.
Flash knows a lot that is true, and he also knows a lot that is just not so.

I've played 8 deckers. I expect good pen, though, and I spread like a maniac, usually 1-30. I also was walking past an 8 decker to play double deck and noticed the dealer cutting of a half deck. I played an 8 decker that day.

You can back-count them, too. Not great, but better for smaller bankrolls than spreading.

From my personal experience, I have made $10k in about three years playing exclusively 8 deckers with a trip frequency of about once every month and a half. I employed an average spread of only $10 to $120, wonging out in negative counts and sometimes waiting for positive counts to sit down, sometimes playing off the top. My starting bankroll was $2000 (Hail Mary BR).
