Is It Hard For You To Stay Quiet When Ppl Use Ploppy Logic At The Tables?

do any of the following type remarks from ppl at the table turn you into a teacher?

"you screwed up the whole table by making that move"
"always assume the dealer has a 10"
"always take even money, its a guaranteed win"
"18 is a winning hand, why mess it up"
etc

i know nobody likes a know it all, and at some casinos its probably best not to let the pit hear you talking like an AP, but i cant help it, i get so frustrated that these ppl are throwing away their money and even worse, thinking they know what they are doing.. its one thing if som1 says "i dont care" but its another when they say "ive been playing for 10 years kid, you have to predict the streaks".. does any1 else get frustrated and want to help the others at the table?

Hell, I sometimes get frustrated just trying to help the people here.

That was a joke Bob!

But I know what you are saying. It can be frustrating. In general, I try to just look at my own hand and not drive myself crazy how other people play their hands.

But, sometimes, it's tougher to do than other times despite knowing intellectually "it makes no difference".

Especially when their pile is getting bigger and your pile is getting smaller.

I've learned to basically not let other people's opinion of my plays bother me.

On the other hand, after 3-4 times of nonsense, sometimes I throw them a fastball down the middle.

You can probably understand that too.

That was another joke lol.

You can not correct these people and really be just another ploppy in the eyes of the casino.

I usually just sit and nod when they rip one of those lines.

But my favorite lines to pull is probably when I split 9 9 against an 8.

"Why would you mess up a push?"

"Because I gotta win. Dealer's got a 10 in the hole and I probably going to pull at 10 on each of these 9's."

Or when doulbing down against a face

"Yeah, the dealer's probably got a 10 in the hole, but if she doesn't it's coming to me."

With index plays (especially when I'm playing a neg count and haven't wonged out yet) I have actually had my life threatened because I "threw off the order of the cards"

Or there was one time last year where I had a ploppy come out into the parking lot and threaten me (situation was a player drew a 9 when the guy actually wanted to stand on his hand and the pit boss said whoever takes the next hit gets the 9. I was sitting on hard 12 so I doubled down).

I think if you're an AP and you're not getting ploppies to scream at you that means you're not playing a good enough game.

This is one of the reasons I play pitch games, Know one knows what cards your holding unless you show it to them. So you do not have ploppys trying to tell you how to play your hand or getting angry over how you play. I only offer advice on how to play a hand when asked.

if you get so worked up by what OTHER people say to you at the table, then maybe BJ isn't the game for you.

what do you care about what anyone else at the table has to say? seriously.... are you trying to impress these people? and helping them is really out of the question - remember THEY KNOW MORE THAN YOU DO - that's why they are always so quick to give advice since they knew that your hit would ruin the whole table. that's why their chip pile keeps going down and down because you're interrupting their clairvoyance.

ignore them, or brush them off, or parry their comment with a riposte that goes right over their head - but getting worked up over these things will only detract from your game. so why even think about it???

I caught hell from the "gang" at the table on the weekend any time I split my hand. It started because the guy at third base didn't split his 6's on one hand, the dealer busted, and the table won. Everyone is congratulating him, saying "Good decision, buddy! Now there's a good anchor!".

The next shoe I split 3's against a 6, double down on the first hand, draw another 3 and split again.... only to have the dealer pull off a 20 and wipe the board. Everyone was rolling their eyes and shaking their heads at me. It happened one other time too, splitting 3's and losing.

So I guess the moral of the story is, don't split 3's anymore!

You split your 3's, the table gets wiped and you are the goat and hearing it from the ploppies. But you should also realize that if the table loses, no matter what you did, you will still get.
What I mean is that if you did not split your 3's and then the dealer makes a hand that kills the table, someone will point out that you should have split, so you get hell as long as the table loses.
If the table wins, they may thank you or more often just let it pass and not remember it.
It is all very very simple. All you need to do to keep these people happy is know what the next few cards in the shoe are and also know the dealers hole card. With this information you will most often make them happy campers. If this information is not available to you then expect the wrath of your tablemates if they lose. So it is the beauty or the horror or whatever you want to call it, often you just can not please these folks, so why even give it any thought.

you should play in such a way that your play is always proper for the circumstances and aims to piss off as many people at the table as possible - so you'll have it all to yourself when it counts most!

i dont want to look like a ploppy! not when im betting $10 flat and it wont matter what i say or do in terms of being backed off.. im not sure what casinos you are going to or what you are betting, but its not as if betting a 1-2 spread and talking about card counting and anti-ploppy stuff will get you backed off, as thats not using a full card counting system to make money, its just better than basic strategy.. also, due to the way i dress and my age, even if i was spreading 1-8 and doing everything possible to try and get backed off, i probably wouldnt, and ive talked to pc and dealers about this and they have told me they rarely back anybody off and dont care if i bet greens and count (this doesnt mean they are telling the truth though, but i dont see why not)

you are right, and i know this, im pretty sure i said it in my post, but this is the type of person i am, which is why i think it would be hard for me to be a professional AP, because it would be extremely hard for me to talk like a ploppy as a cover.. but hey, having dignity isnt a bad thing.. but i will never have the bankroll to spread, so it doesnt matter, im just doing what i can to lower the house edge as much as possible.. you know, it doesnt have to be all or nothing.. just because i dont spread my bets doesnt make me "a moron ploppy" and just because i say i count cards doesnt mean im claiming im a professional blackjack player, so i think everybody needs to stop assuming "what i think i am".. what i think is what i say, and if i didnt say it, then dont assume it!

Anyone else have a moral quandry if they get asked by another player for advice on a hand, when they themselves are trying to do something stupid?

You know, like when it's a very positive count, and a civilian asks you if he should stand on his 15v10, or double down on a 10v10. Normally I'd feel a certain obligation to offer the correct basic strategy advice, even though I might be deviating on that very same hand! But if he followed your lead instead, he'll probably start doubling 10v10 all the time, and that would make you a horrible horrible person.

on the occasion that the pit isnt watching, and the casino is slow, I will offer advice if asked. but never tell other people how to wager their money. its terribly annoying, and draws the wrong kind of attention to play. ususally I say its bad luck, and offer some superstitious response like "my mojo just aint workin' right now" (Dead link: http://chronicle.com/subscribe/login?url=/weekly/v49/i11/11b01601.htm)

I was at my local casino, minding my own business. Dealer deals me A/7,dealers upcard is a 10 so I take a hit. This ploppy to my right says in a "all knowing" tone "that's an 18 'ya know"!
I should have replied "oh really"? but I guess my blood sugar was low or something and I replied " yes, that's a soft 18- with it you stand on dealer's upcards 2,7,or8 you double down on 3 through 6 and you take a hit on 9,10,orAce". He immediately got up and walked away.

How about "You have to be consistent."

Everyone ever tell you you need to play consistently?
"You have to be consistent."
"I don't care how anyone plays, as long as their consistent."
"If you want to hit 16, fine. If you want to stand on 16, fine. But choose one and stick with it."

I really wish I could explain index plays to them, but...
