Long Live Double Deck!

Maybe this should go with my 9th outing, but it just seemed like it was a topic unto itself. Until this trip to Vegas I had never had the opportunity to play double deck. Now I know what all the chit chat is about for all you veterans who swear by one and two deck games. Question 1:confused: : Do they have any double deck games in Atlantic City? Double Deck is like night and day better than shoe games. The action is faster, the camo easier to apply (IMHO), and the counting is so much easier no matter how fast they deal. I am totally hooked! I did have a little trouble finding the games, however. MGM only had a DD game in the high rollers section, and my puny BR is not there yet. Venetian raised their game from $25 to $50 because of some convention that I suppose guaranteed them full tables at the higher rate. But then I found Harrah's. Nice place to play. The dealers are hilarious. Had a great time and brought home $1,100. Question 2:confused: : Where are the other $15 and $25 DD games in Vegas? I only have one and a half days left, that is, if I ever get to bed tonight...er, I mean this morning.

Ive always wondered if your playin in a pitch game(face down) and your tryin to get a glimpse of the other players cards. Exactly what their atitude is, when rubber neckin to see their cards?
I bet some players think, your tryin to cheat them by tryin to see their cards and quickly hide them so you cant see them:laugh:

Actually most pitch games in Vegas are dealt face up. Only the Venetian deals them face down that I know of, and then only in the high limit room (which is S17, one of the only S17 double deck games in Vegas not at MGM properties). I like the face down game, it is fun -- but the Venetian table is usually crowded. They open a 2nd one sometimes, but rarely. And it is usually crowded. A shame. Stardust used to have a DD S17 face down game.

I thought Harrah's DD would be 6:5. Turns out it is 3:2 but the rules generally suck, like all of Harrah's properties now.

Huh, I'd expect the standard for pitch games to be face down. And that was the case at the lower-limit games that I've played (off strip).

And as much as Harrah's generally makes me go "ick", I was surprised at a local Harrah's to see pretty good penetration on their DD game. The table was totally packed, so it didn't do me any good, but I was happy to see it.

I think I saw a single deck pitch game in Caesars in A.C. last time I was there but didn't have enough time to fully check it out. I've never seen any DD's though...:(

EDIT: I just checked it out online...it's a single deck pitch game, H17, and 6:5 naturals..yuck

Pitch. I have never seen a shoe game. How does it matter? Holecarding?
Was just wondering because you said it was easy to count. Being an east coast guy, I believe you're a newbie to pitch games and counting, so was suprised you thought it easy.

I have seen pitch faced down at excalibur and indian casinos from my own experience. I have never seen a pitch game face up, but that intrigues me....sounds like a good time

Aslan, since you are still in Vegas

Mirage has a $25 double deck game where the dealer stays on soft 17 for only $25 most of the time. You could also try TI. Go early morning and you often find empty tables and lower limits.

Also, Slots-A-Fun has a double deck game far better than Harrah's for $5 but pen is generally poor.

You had a good run playing a double deck game that is inferior to the ones mentioned above, but trying it for the first time at lower limits is always smart.

Pitch games are often dealt face down to thwart counters. But then you have the problem of card-muckers switching in cards, who are playing with a much bigger edge than a table full of counters could ever pull. So a lot of places are going back to face up.

If you still have time, go and see if they shuffle preferentially on you!! It will be a good test of your camo ability. See if there's still a Taiwanese dealer named Chris, she's great at it.

DD Face down Pitch games are the best games in Miss. Counting face down pitch games is really not hard at all. The dealer will flip over each players cards one at a time and pay/collect each player, giving ample time to count each hand. The only thing you have to watch for as a player Bust she will take up the cards right then, so you need to pay attention. You can not always know the exact count for index plays, because you cannot see all cards dealt out, but you do always have the exact count for betting purposes. The ideal way is to play tables with as few players as you can find.

Double-deck

I used to play exclusively double-deck, but have since switched to shoes because good 2D games are very difficult to find. If penetration is 1.0/2.0, the game is only marginally playable if you're head's up. If there's even one other player at the table, I'll look for something better. If you really like 2D, I suggest going to Reno.

I'm also surprised at the comment that it's easier to hide your play with 2D. With 2D games, the count varies much more often than a shoe, and you're constantly having to vary your bet. It doesn't take much of this type of betting for some pits to become very suspicious. My 2D sessions are typically only 1/3 to 1/2 as long as my shoe sessions because of this.

Why would anyone play at the Venetian when they have cut one deck off. I was there in August and played 2 rounds. First round 50 cards dealt, next round 47. As for Harrahs all 2 deck games are hit soft 17 and no double after split. You can walk across the street and play at the Mirage and find a much better game. Usually $25 till about 4 in the afternoon then they go to $50. Better rules and better cut.
