Hey fellas i was sitting around the other day with a couple of my buddies and we thought of a new system. Now before i spend all the time it takes to test a system i wanted to see if anyone has heard of this system and if it works.

What if you count the card value. If you get a 10 and a 6 count that as 16, and if the dealer gets a 20, the add 16 and 20 and you get 36. Just count all the values of the cards. Now a 52 card decks count is 380. since most casinos play 6 decks the full count is 2280.

i was also thinking you would count each card so if theres 104 cards out and the count is only at 832 you know that are about 200 cards left so you could gage if theres high cards coming or low cards.

what does everyone think?

How does knowing the totals help you? It doesn’t really tell you anything about the rest of the cards. The following hands will have the same count using your system:

9,2,7
8,4,6
6,6,6
5,A,9,3
4,2,8,3,A

But the actual advantage changes differently for each hand. Giving them all the same value does not give you an accurate estimation of your actual advantage, nor does it give you any help with playing decisions or insurance plays. Also, the numbers in your system will be very large and difficult to use in calculations. It gets even more complicated when you start counting aces as 1 instead of 11. Why not just use a much simpler system that is much more effective?

This seems much more difficult to do than to count +1 and -1.

You could probably get a weak correlation between your advantage and the average value of a card (dividing the total sum by total cards played), but it's more effort for fewer results.

There are many "systems" which work as weak predictors - for example, the number of busts (player or dealer) will correlate very weakly with the advantage (the more busts, the more likely that more 10's have come out) but in the end, you get the most results with the least effort by using traditional counting schemes.
