Once in a lifetime hand?

Played the other night and got what I'll probably never see again. I get a pair of 8's, dealer upcard is a 4. Of course I split the 8's. Next card he deals me another 8. Split that one. Next card, another 8, split it. Next card another 8, split it. Next card another 8, split it. I now have 6 consecutive 8's, with 6 bets out there. I'm confident, with the dealer upcard of 4. Dealer says he's never seen this before. Pit boss notices all the hands on the table and comes over. He says he's never seen it before, and calls the floor manager over. He's never seen it before either. Now everybody's watching. On my first hand, dealer throws me a 3, giving me 11, so I double down (now I have 7 bets up there- $30/hand for a total of $210), and I get a face for a 21. The other five hands end up totaling between 14 and 18. No problem, he's got a 4 showing. Now for the moment of truth..Dealer flips his hole card, a 10. Now he has 14. Next card, a 2. He's got 16, and I can just smell the bust card coming. Now with everyone watching, he flips the unthinkable 5, scooping up 5 of my bets, and pushing the double down 21 I had. It felt like someone punched me in the stomach. I'll probably never get the chance split 6 consecutive cards again, and if this is what happens when you do, I don't want to see it again... :flame:

I was close to that once. Dealer had a 10 up. Split 8's 3 times for 4 hands with $25 bet. Doubled every one of them and ended up with 21 on all of them, for a total of $200 bet that I can't lose. Then the dealer turned over his down card to show an Ace. Yes, the dealer had a BJ. Apparently when he checked, the machine malfunctioned and didn't register the Ace. Fortunately I only lost the original $25 but it did kind of feel like a kick in the teeth when it happened.

I know how you feel. I had to split 4 aces with a six up, true count was about 2.5 and never got a ten on any hand. The dealer had a 5 in the hole and hit and got a 10. That wouldn't have been so bad on a normal night for me because most nights I only play at the $5 tables and would have only lost $40 at that count but this night I played a $10 table and with that count I was playing $15 dollars a hand so I lost $60 and I took a hit on my confidence which I was building up along with my bankroll. It's not much to alot of guys on here but it was to me more my confidence than my pocket.

You know, of course I felt bad losing the money, but.... What the heck is the statistical probability of being dealt 6 consecutive 8's? It's gotta be a gazillion to one.

I think I must have seen it all with me both making big wins and big loses on those kinds of splits. I know it is a kidney punch when you lose them, but that's part of the game and you move on to the next hand. Sure sucks when it happens though <sigh>.

I've played where the dealer dealt himself four suited 3's in a row followed by by 3 more 3's for a non-bust hand of 18. The pitboss entered this into a computer and told us this was a 1 in 13 million chance.

You are right. I posted this same question about the probability of getting 6 identical cards , on bj21.com. Got the same answer there- 1 in 13 million. (for the 8 deck shoe I played).

I never knew some casinos allow you to split more than 3 times, i.e. giving you more tha 4 hands. Is that common?

I don't know if it's common. I know some places the limit is 4. This was in an Indian casino (I won't say which one). The pit all watched it play out, and no one said a word, so I assumed there was no limit to how many splits you can do. In retrospect, I wish they HAD limited me to 4 hands because I got killed on it.

I've heard of unlimited splits....but have never seen it in Vegas, Kansas, Missouri or Oklahoma. Places I've played limit it to 4 hands. Some Single and Double Deck restrict it to two hands.

I love multiple splits with double opportunities. Gets the adrenaline going.

Great to win, sucks to lose, but last I checked it's part of why we all enjoy playing.

I just got a hand in a single deck game that has to be near impossible:
check this out: (d-diamonds, s-spades, c-clubs, h-hearts)

My two upcards were the 4d, 5c

I then hit to a 5h,2s, and then busted with a Kc

the probability of that exact sequence happening is roughly 1 in 311,875,200 (that was actually computed using probability statistics)

What's my point?... don't get so hung up on the probability of things happening, just chalk it up to a stroke of bad luck and go on with the next hand.

I guess I should clarify my point. I was more interested in the occurance of having SPLIT the 6 hands. I know your example: 4d,5c,2s,5h,Kc is one in 13 mil. (Or any other combo of the same amount of cards)... BUT, you can't split 4,5,2,5,K. Win or lose, it was just very unusual to see 6 IDENTICAL cards split into 6 hands, that's all. Ever seen it before? Kind of like if you got 10 blackjacks in a row. That's something you might tell someone about, because it was unusual. Just a story I thought worth mentioning.

Yup, and avoid ladders & black cats for the rest of the day. Who knows, was it the 13th hand of the shoe? :laugh:
