Pen for non AP

SD and DD (and I guess any shoe game as well): Is there any advantage or disadvantage to the non AP if pen is horrible? I'm talking 40% in a DD game for example. Pure Basic Strategy play and flat betting.

I'm in a mild disagreement on another forum with an AP who believes that bad pen hurts APs and Non APs alike. I tend to think that it will make no difference to the non-AP since there is nothing for him to base any decisions on anyway other than the Basic Strategy charts. Nor would it hurt the AP were the AP flat-betting (duh!)

Thanks ZG. That's what I thought. I'll not carry that disagrement further for it would serve no purpose. It's not about pen in reference to AP but rather to ploppies playing poor pen games. It won't hurt them (possibly even help them a little) but if they are convinced not to play those pens, it might carry a very little influence on the casinos to give better pen.

In the real world, bad shoe pen helps the muggles because it keeps Wongers away! Bad DD pen may hurt them ever so slightly because counters will draw fewer cards in good counts and more cards in bad counts, giving them more hands in good counts.

Thats one of the stupidest things i have heard when it comes to blackjack. How would the ploppie know if they were good or bad? Oh he must have won the first two hands so those were the good cards coming out:laugh: Hopefully know one adds a second hand to mess up the good shoe! :joker:

The cut card effect

In a game with a fixed number of hands between shuffles, there is no difference for the player using basic strategy in the house edge. However, if the house uses a cut card, then the house edge increases even against the basic strategy player. This is called the "Cut Card Effect" which is easy to look up on google. If I'm not counting and am playing in a game that sometimes goes three rounds,sometimes four rounds,it seems I'm better off sitting out the fourth round. Is that correct?

Only if the variance in #rounds is due to consisten cut-card placement. Actually, you'd be better off sitting out ALL of the rounds. zg

No, thats backwards - the more hands per hour the greater the loss per hour. zg

The house edge would be more consistant though and not flucuate between player and casino as in a non-csm game.
