Don't be surprised if there are big political contributions to the PA politicos to quash table games. From WHom? The AC casinos, of course.

The legalization of slots in PA is what is killing the AC casinos, not changes in smoking laws nor the economy. If PA adds table games with reasonable rules, what reason would anyone within an hour of a PA casino have to go to AC?

I don't know, if AC was interested in being the place to go for table games they wouldn't be shutting down the tables all the time. And if they had the power to kill gaming in PA, they would have killed the slots for sure. I guess they will go one of two ways- either fight for the slot players with better comps and promotions, or wring the last dollars out of the remaining degenerates with worse games and comps and let somebody else worry about what to do after that. The former would be nice, but the latter more likely.

I was considering an additional paragraph about how stupids the AC casinos execs have been, not capitalizing on their only advantage of PA casinos - tables games. Then I decided not to insult anyone. Thanks for filling in the gap.

no offense taken chefjj, however, there are a lot of people who live in the city and use public transportation, beleive me. By building at a location without access to public trans, you are losing out on those people. Why do you think when you build a ballpark or sporting facility, they are always accessible by public transportation.

Have you seen how many people travel to atlantic city via public transportation. From Philadelphia 14 daily trains (new jersey transit) 35 daily new jersey transit bus trips, 16 daily greyhound bus trips, and numerous other bus companies run daily trips from Phila to ac (sheppard bus co, lion bus, coastal coach, david tours, golden charter service among others)

Thats a pretty big public transportation market they could be losing out on.

I hear you for sure...I'm a transit guy myself. How long is the train ride from Philly to AC? If I went that way, I imagine that I'd connect from the Amtrak then head over.

Well the New jersey transit train from philly to ac is certainly not time efficent. That is because New jersey transit must use amtrac tracks while in Pa. So the train leaves 30th street station heading north (wrong direction) going through some truely eye-popping areas of north philadelph. Luckily there are no stops nor anyone boarding. Once the train crosses the Delaware river on the amtrac bridge well north of center city philadelphia and hits Jersey, it turns south to the first scheduled stop in Cherry hill NJ. Now the problem is that Cherry hill is 10 minutes by car, but 35 minutes by this crazy train route. This makes the whole Phila to AC trip about an hour and a half.

A more efficent way from center city Philadelphia and slightly less expensive is to take the Patco (local train) from either 16th street (which is a block walk for me) or 8th and market to lindenwald. This is a 22 minute ride. At lindenwald you can connect to the New Jersey train for the final 45 minutes to AC.

Not sure I agree with this thinking at all. I think they are going to want to create as large a "hold" as possible by giving horrible crappy rules that give the casino as much an advantage as they can get away with. The only thing that will create more liberal rules is competition. Pa venues all stand alone, rather than in a cluster like atlantic city or vegas, so each casino has vertually no competition.

I dont knwo if i agree with this competion doesnt make atlantic city get rid of there crappy 8 decks or h17 or other rules that make the game there shitty. So why would one that has nothing around worry about making the game better, they know that if its there people will play there will alwasy be suckers, as long as there are casino games there will be casino suckers pumping money into them, Everyone knows slots are awful or roulette or the big wheel or keno are all **** rules that you lose money at a rapid rate playing but what casino have you ever walked into on a saturday night and not seen each one of the games i just listed not have a full table, the people climb over each other to give the money to the casino... I heard a legend of this old river boat gambling legend who had won millions traveling the different riverboats back in the day taking peoples money playing poker and hustling people. He was suppose to be the best there was back then sharp as they come always ahead of the game and other people in it yet he used to play this awful crooked game called FARO which everyone knew was a horrible game which took your money very quickly and everywhere you played it the game was crooked also not only was it a bad game in terms of odds against you but it was also rigged to be even more in the casino or person running the games favor. One day a good friend of this man came up to him well he was at the faro table and said to him what the hell are you doing your supposed to be a smart gambler dont you know this game is ment to take your money and crooked as ever, the man simply replied to him yes i know its crooked but its the only game in town. The moral of the story is if there are games of chance out there reguardless of rules or how big of an edge the casino has there will always be hardcore gamblers who will throw there money hand over fist at the games people who just want the action of waiting to see there money disapeer just to load up the spot the next spin of the wheel or deal of the cards with more money to be taken by the people who run the games. If it was the only casino for 100 miles or 1 of 30 in a 50 mile area the rules will never truly matter to the casinos bottom line they will always make money on the moron gamblers and they all know it, the casinos and the gamblers themselves.:cool2:

Can I ask, what makes you think table games are in the not too distant future, Kasi? I really haven't heard much talk of this. I know Pa, like everyone else wants to increase it's revenue, However I would think the first priority should be to concentrate on getting casinos, or more accurately called slot parlors up and running in the largest city in the state. It's inconceivable that 3 years into legal slot play in Pa, the largest degenerate pool of gamblers is still being ignored. Thats just bad management.

When I wrote that it was just something I gleaned from sources I deemed credible. All that golfing with a former colleauge whose wife's brother is in the "In" etc lol.

Latest is it could happen as soon as April 30, 2010 once they resolve several bills pending before the legislature that range from a one-time licensing fee from $10MM to $15MM and a tax rate by the state from like 12 to 21%.

As you say later here, they speculate it could result in as many as 10,000 new jobs to man all the tables.

All part of balancing PA's budget, along with a 25 cent/pack tax on cigs, and a much wider scope of the things they will apply sales tax to like tickets to art museums, etc, that is already around 70 or 80 days past the date that a budget was mandated by law to have been agreed upon.

I imagine the rules will, if and when it happens, and I think it will happen before the next fiscal year (June 30), basically, suck lol.

I think a beer costs $6.75 in the Three Rivers Casino - there goes my EV that depends alot on drinking enough for free, like in AC lol.

What do we have here in PA anyway - maybe 10 licenses out of 12 that have been granted?

I have season ticket to the Eagles yes, plus 2 away games, but am not a MIcheal Vick fan. That makes it kind of tough and takes the enjoyment out of it for me. I dont bet on football, but will keep an eye on your pick.
