actually, you know what?

before i had my BS down, i stood on a soft 17 against a six. the dealer told me to hit...and told me that there are 6 cards that can help me. so i hit...and then i lost the hand.

now that i know i should double.

what a crappy dealer.

EDIT: that was in vegas by the way.

Dealer tells you that, you can't figure out he's wrong and he's a crappy dealer?

I meant double, not hit. There's no reason to hit it without doubling, my mind and hands don't work together sometimes.
What if you have a three card soft 18, such as A, 4, 3? Do you hit or stand? Personally I stand, since there are only three cards that help me, A, 2, and 3, so the risk does not seem justified since I can't get paid double.

too bad that isn't the right play.

S18 is either Double or Stand against 5,6 it is never hit...
LOL I was thinking the same thing. I love this play and for whatever reason get an incredible amount of **** from nearly every person I play with because of it.

If 18 is so great why do 17s suck so bad!? LOL

18 isn't great! Otherwise, why hit it if it's soft? It only beats 17.

Soft 18 is not great but it is loads of ploppy fun

Much more than hitting your 12 vs 3 or splitting your 9,9, a soft 18 will bring you opportunity after opportunity to make new "friends" at the casino of your choice:grin:
Double it against a stiff or hit it vs 9-A and the groans of the uneducated play beautifully in my mind. I can not really lose! Win the hand and I have won some money. Lose the hand and even though my chip count may be lower, the good chance that a player or two will leave the table because of me is something akin to a win.
Of course I would rather have a blackjack but for pure fun at the table soft 18 has got to be about the best hand you can have, though it is not that great when you have a max bet out and are facing a dealer big card.

Yesterday while playing...

I saw the cut card coming in 2 cards(i knew 1.5 deck remaining in the shoe) the running count was at +20.
Well i had a ploppy at my table, but then 2 ploppies wanted to enter my table!:flame:
and one even called another one (a 3rd one) so i saw my table in jeopardy with 4 ploppies about to enter my table to eat MY CARDS!:flame:.
i did the unthinkable.
i Opened 6 large bets so noone could enter, the problem was i had to think fast so i putted a 5 unit(my spread is 1 to 12) bet in all of them.
Well all of my hands had H19, 2H20, 2blackjacks and a A8 VS a dealer 6, the other ploppy at the table had a 74.
So i doubled down at my A8 hence for my astonishiment all of the ploppies roared in disgust:gun: and even the one at the table jumped of his seat saying "damn you don't see the board, i have a double coming!!!!"
All of the other ploppies waiting behind me were saying"this is bs we cannot play with this guy!, that is one of the worst plays i have ever seen!, your right lets go to another table!"
i got a 10 and the ploppy a 2
the dealer made a 4 card 21(for the last hand):yikes:
i lost 4 big bets but recover 3 with my blackjacks.
The ploppy wanted to hit me because i would had won all of my hands and he his double.
i think sometimes this game is kind of lonely though i know i made the right play, i cannot discuse it with anyone.
Even the dealer told the ploppy to better leave (she thought i wasnt listening) she whispered"you are going to loose all your money with this guy!"

needless to say i had a bad session of 60 units down.
Im planning to get my revenge today!(Always 2 winning sessions and one losing)

The QUESTION IS DID A BET TO MUCH OR TO LITTLE? DID I DID A BAD MOVE(OPENING TO MANY HANDS)?
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Well, it's hard to make a reasonable risk adjusted bet suddenly leaping to five spots. A cheaper alternative might have been just telling the guys to buzz off so they wouldn't mess up the Flow of the cards.

But considering that you caused a near ploppy riot, and the expense of only 10 or so units, I think that might have been worth it :)

I don't really know; I'm not a math guy. I think it was a good move if your bankroll can afford it. Instead of say, three hands at 8 units (24 total), which seems reasonable, you had six hands at 5 units (30 total). You also reduced variance as well as captured more hands than you otherwise would have at such a favorable count. Where I play they won't let me spread to more than three hands so I never considered it. Where was this BTW? Also, I never doubled down on an A/8, but it seems reasonable considering the count and the dealer's up card. Is this the play that everyone else is using? I wouldn't have any qualms about splitting tens at such a count, but I have never doubled on soft 19. Then again, I'm a little slow. LOL

Awesome move!

I love making people at the table mad. I would've been extra mad in that situation as well if people were about to sit down and steal thunder. Good show.

Well the dealer was playing it better than you hitting on soft 17 vs any card including a 6 is a way better play than standing! If you just stay it is an overall loser but if you hit you will win more than 50% of your hands and you will only want to take one card so doubling is the best play. If you made the play of staying on soft 17 vs a 6 at my table I would know that you are bad player who will lose his money really fast.

Eating with my Gf, i start thinking maybe they are on to me or something, why the dealer told me that (the banned counters and that he counts), he must know something, i shouldn't had raise that bet! in that particular time.

doesn't it draw the pit's attention when you jump from one to six hands? i feel like i get looks from the pit when i jump from one to two hands in double deck. but that's double deck.

you could've told them to wait til the shoe it's over because you guys are winning, and if the ploppies refuse, then say "too bad..." and proceed to hog all the spots.
