According to the BS engine on this site you should Sr 17 vs A, In a H17 game, with 1 or more decks as a Basic strategy move. My first question is, does this particular hand differ from the other Sr hands? What I mean is, isnt it true the Higher the count is,(Unlike the other plays) the LESS likely you would be to Sr. this hand?

Provided this is true, at what point, should you Stand as oppossed to Surrendering half your bet on this hand?

Note: For some reason, my book came with no Index for this hand.

i assume your talking late surrender. the index is denoted in Professional Blackjack (page 93) as *2 where * indicates reverse the meaning. surrender only at true counts below the number in the table.
so you surrender 17vsA if tc<2 for a h17 game.

Very similar to the 8,8 vs.10 index (nLS).

Great! I wasnt sure if there would be an Index or not.

Another question. Is there an Index for this hand if dealer stays on S17?;) I would think not, since the dealer stays on s17. Or if there is, It must be pretty low.

no index number for late surrender is given for 17vA for S17 games. that indicates never take late surrender in that case.
