Planning on going to Reno for the first time soon. I was wondering if the stores there would handle a $20-$80 spread. Or would smaller action be more appropriate?

Anyone have any good advice?

How does the heat there compare with downtown Las Vegas?

Right now I'm looking at $68/night taxes included for hotel and rental car. Anybody know where to find a better deal?

Right now they're giving away the house (so to speak). Atlantis has a 2 for one room promo until the end of March i.e you get your first room for half price and the subsequent night is FREE (Sun-Thurs), which boils down to 1/2 price of 1/2 price. El Dorado is having a 3 day cash give a way March 21-24 and Siena has a howdy doody (4K) BJ tourney on St. Patty's weekend.

I wonder if it might be a good idea to raise your min bet to $25 and spread 1-3 with a level 2 count. That way you can play the quarter tables (less people)and get more hands per hour; and a 1-3 spread (less heat) with a strong count is enough to beat this game easily.

Try a 1-3 spread with a level 2 count you will be fine if you avoid betting over $100 as your high. You will get some heat. Got backed off in the sweaty joints, was fine at the bigger joints. You will get heads up at the $25 tables, even on a weekend. The dealers are very friendly and chatty. My paranoia was high and I thought they may have been trying to disctract me but just a heads up about that.

The Atlantis would be a nice home base, cheap rooms. Stayed for 4 nights. They offered me an extension to a Spa room for $25/night it would be nice if you have a woman but I don't want that kind of thing. You can get cheaper rooms in dirty hotels right downtown. If I don't get any comped rooms I will stay in a sweaty motel next time.

Be careful on the street with your BR. It is like downtown LV but rougher. No security is keeping the insane people out. It is like LV near the El Cortez.

keep your bankroll on tight to you, if possible hotel safe what you won't need. I didn't have any problems, even running across town (on foot since a car was a pain) late at night, but i'm a big guy. There are definitely a lot of sketchy people in reno, more so than downtown vegas. I haven't had bad encounters in either place, but when i'm walking from place to place, i do it with a purpose and with awareness.

another think you can do is play only the sketchy places during the day and stick to the big shops at night....

DD games are not good overall, but there ARE good ones if you know where to look. Single deck games are still "very good". Many dealers give 7 rounds heads-up and though most SD is d10, even those games are very playable.

Since you haven't been in Reno for "years" perhaps you need to go and get a feel for what's happening there.

Reno is very tolerant of red and red/green action. There are a few exceptions but overall, at the bigger stores you can put some $$ on the felt. PS is the biggest problem you find in Reno. Personally, I put a much larger "spread" down when I play there. The key to living to play another day in Reno is to keep your sessions short. Don't be afraid to fire away and play correctly, either...go for the jugglar!

Rooms and food comps are very easy to swing. With any play, you should be able to get your room comped when you leave.

Grand Sierra Resort and John Ascuaga's Nugget can handle $20-$80 spreads at their $5 single deck tables. Circus-Circus and Cal-Neva will sweat like downtown Las Vegas. Most other major Reno area casinos have $25 minimums at single deck.
