Sahara is closing for good

just to direct this thread back to the original topic, lol, I played my 3 remaining $25 matchplays from ACG yesterday at sahara. As anyone who plays MP's there knows, you have to exchange your coupon for one of theirs at the card center and it is supposed to be one every 30 days, but the employees at sahara are basically in a "I don't give a damn mode" so they let me play all three. Thought I would pass this along for the benefit of anyone who still has remaining MP's there. :)

Do you have any skinny on what may be replacing it's space? Are they tearing it down completely?

I haven't visited there since the early eighties, when they had a prime rib and champagne lunch for next to nothing. Talk about being dated! May have included caviar and shrimp cocktail, too. How time does muddle the memory.:confused::(

Didn't ask those kind of questions. Besides who knows what may happen between now and closing day in May. If it does close for good, it will be torn down though. The value is in the land/location, not the building. Especially an old place like that. Location on northern end of strip isn't prime, but perhaps built in monorail stop adds some value, I don't know.

Stardust

How many times has Boyd Gaming kicked themselves for imploding the Stardust? It could still be making a good buck for them even in todays economy simply because it was the Stardust. It was the "old standby place" for many longtime Vegas return guests (including myself).
Echelon Place (the replacement) may never be built------sad to see what happened there!

Same with the Sands in AC and dozens of other places. Anyone remember the Peter Max mural proclaiming that upon this site will be built the worlds largest casino that hung on the last remaining wall of Trumps worlds Fair casino for several years?

Bring back Benny Binion and the owners from that era and they'd figure a way to draw crowds to the place! My guess is way too many Harvard MBA's in the mix.:joker:

Sahara matchplay coupons

I went to the Sahara yesterday to use my three remaining coupons. :)They allowed me to use only one. :(I went back today and was told that I could use just one per month. I don't understand how kewljason managed to use three coupons in one visit.

Try to hit the middle ages lady (late 40's or early 50's) that works around mid day during the week. I didn't take note of her name. Had no reason to. But you will know her by her attitude. She has a real "I don't give a f**k attitude". I was only expecting to be able to play one of my three and made a casual comment about hoping to get all of these in before you close and she said give them to me and gave me three MP's. Worked for me. :)

Was just reading in the LV Sun online about the closing moments of the Sahara. At one point I was wishing I was there to witness it and then in a flash, I was glad I'm not. I find it very sad when a place closes, regardless if I liked playing there. Several years ago ate at the House of Lords with friends. Was a great night, earlier in the day watched SC beat Norte Dame with the Bush Push.

99% of the people who come to Vegas have no idea what the odds are supposed to be, and could care less if they were to told. They are here to see shows, volcanoes, fountains, attend trade shows, and get drunk for days at a time.
And don't forget the HO's!

The HO chi minh trail, better known as the Strip?

You stay away from them, now, bjb, or you'll wind up catching some rare std that will end your counting career. :whip: Look at what happened to Howard Hughes, And he had Vegas by the proverbials.
