Single Deck Strategy

I have the opportunity to work in Reno for 2 years and would like to play some SD. I use KO for shoe games but I would like to learn something with better PE. Can anyone recommend a good level 2 SD strategy? I've looked at both AOII and HiOptII but not too excited about side counting Aces. I also checked out Canfield Master which looks kinda obsolete.
Another option would be Zen or UBZ which is Ace-Reckoned but has a slightly lower PE (according to QFIT's counting comparison) than the above mentioned. Are there any other decent strategies for single deck?
I'm more than willing to put the time in to learn something that has better PE than KO... but is it worth it? Thanks in advance.

Single Deck, Several Changes

qfit's comparison of counts is reliable, how complicated (level of count) you want to learn is a personal choice.
basic strategy will be different for single deck vs multi deck
you may want to consider indices beyond the ILL 18

Side counting A's does have value in single deck, but it's not a necessity.

IMHO, I would try looking into RPC. It's level II and Ace-reckoned and although may not be the top in each category (pitch, shoe) it's near the top in both and no need for any conversions. You'll soon notice the power of the 1`/2 deck TC resolution for the Reno pitch games. I would have recommended Monkey's BF count, however, I remember the Monk telling me that it loses a lot without DAS which doesn't exist in Reno hand held games.

Monkey's BF count is the RPC! He has just rounded off indices to 5 or 10. (thus the name) It was Reading Monkey's BF count that got me to switch 2 years ago. The RPC is a reasonably strong count that can be used successfully for both pitch and shoe games, however, if you have the opportunity to play exclusive pitch games there are stronger counts, with a better playing efficency out there.

Yes, I know the Monkey Count is derived from RPC and he in fact did "group" the indices; however, when he asked me to preview it prior to it's "release", he made the specific remark that it's only to be used with DAS. I never did try to mathematically analyze why not and just take him at his word, because "IN MONKEY WE TRUST".

You need to sidecount aces in SD because the ace is valuable for Betting, but not so good for playing. So a count like HiOptII is ranked so high in SD, because it has high PE without the Ace added in, and good BE with Ace.

You should be tracking the TC by the 1/4 deck. Know composition based BS, and lots of indexes (some also based on composition).

The biggest problem is going to be getting in a profitable spread for any length of time. You are going to have to have some cover betting schemes, search the threads here for advice, and keep sessions short in a hit-and-run style.

Say no more! You say you want a L2 Ace reckoned count for SD that has a decent PE and IC. Then ZEN is the optimal count your looking for. Hands down! Plus it works very good for shoes. Is level of difficulty is easy compared to ao2 and hi-opt2 primarily since the nines are ignored.

Pe.64
ic.85

Very interesting. I did see this post awhile back and at the time I gave it a casual glance only because it really didn't apply to me. I didn't know much about the Zen count and was happy with KO for shoes. But now that I'm looking for something stronger against SD I'll take a harder look at it. Do you have any sims for SD?
Looks like you did some great work and put a lot of effort into it. Thanks for sharing!:)

I recommend that you stick with KO. Add more matrices, play faster and longer. zg
That's good advice. Do you think I can pound the SD game KO-P with lower PE than say Zen or Hi-OptII?
I'm not sure what the PE with KO-P but it's probabaly around .54 or so. But what you say makes sense. Using KO without mistakes is way better than a Level 2 or 3 making a couple mistakes per hour. Thanks Zen!

Makes sense. I don't plan on being in any one store for more than 45 minutes. Spread 1-4, stay less than an hour and get the hell out of there.
