Team Play - Illegal??

I heard that team play is illegal, well, for the big player anyway. If you count normally at a table, we all know that's legal because you are working it out for yourself. But if you then call in a BP, he has inside information about the game, that the other players don't have, so he is cheating.. is this true??

doesn't seem logical. the joints would have to ban players from conversing or censor their babble.

team play was almost outlawed in the counting forum :joker:

No, that's not true. There is no law against passing information to another player.

Some games, like the carnival 'poker' variety, prohibit passing info, so a casino like MGM can post a similar prohibitory BJ rule as well. zg

Sure, they could post no mid-shoe entry signs if they wanted. That would make standard BP team play against the rules but not technically illegal.

Not allowed does only mean not allowed

It has nothing to do with legality. Casinos would post signs such as "No Thinking Allowed" or "No Winning Allowed" if they did not think it might cause someone to actually think.
So they do not have this sign but will still toss you for thinking and a few places will toss you for winning.

Best way to pass infor is to get yourself a Asian partner and learn to speak Chinese. Make sure the pit that you are playing in has only American pit critters. Sounds stupid but I have seen it done. A American talking some foreign tounge to someone that is not American.

There is no law against passing information from player to player in America. But in other places such as Monte Carlo I have been informed it is illegal.

Or get a non-Asian partner and speak Chinese. Or Swahili, or Hindi, or Finnish, or Esperanto. The choice of language is arbitrary.

Overall in the typical casino you are better off speaking openly but discreetly to your partners rather than sneaking around, using code and signals, because all that stuff will attract attention and perhaps lead them to believe you are something even more of a danger to them than AP's.

If you have a teammate that tries to spot dealer's hole cards, and then relays that info to you, that would be "spooking", and would indeed be illegal.

But team play card counting? Naw.

If that player is on the table, I think it's still legal.

Only if he is not on the table

The teamate in the movie casino, who was seated at another table and was signaling the hole card of the weak dealer was spooking. Spooking is considered illegal but legal types believe it may not technically be in Nevada.

Seeing a hole card while seated at the table with the weak dealer and signaling it to another player is legal but really pisses off casino folks. I can attest to this first hand as can Mr Grosjean. Yahoo and some pits may consider cardcounting illegal but to them it is like larceny (petty or grand depending on your bet level and spread) but holecarding to them is more akin to rape or murder and their reactions can reflect this.

Good holecarders need not only good eyesight but an understanding of just how that particular casino's table games work and instincts of not only a preditor but prey that is able to live to an old age.
