The best way to count cards imo.

Because of all my practice at home I found that I was naturally scanning the table and keeping the count. I found myself taking a snapshot of the table after the dealer started the payout. I would turn and look elsewhere and mentally cancel and add up the table. I was suprised how effective it was. :grin:

I tried keeping a side count on aces and fives the other day using chips, while also doing a level one count. It was pretty obvious what I was doing. I then switched to only counting fives, but I made it so confusing that no eye would ever be able to figure out what I was doing. I used it once to hit a 16 that I normally would not hit, but because there were so many fives left, I figured I had a better chance. I busted. I also stopped using this side count. Not that it might not work overall. Then one day, I'm not sure if it was online or in one of my books, I read about scanning the table and a light came on. Counting every card individually leaves so much room to slip up (as I said I have experienced plenty), whereas with scanning you only add/subtract when a player's cards don't cancel each other out. Ever since, whenever I practice I flip through 2-3 cards at a time, and it has helped significantly.

Only? Or do you just think they are the best side counts in general? Don't you think a side count might vary depending on the count it is used with and also the particular game you are playing (number of decks and different rules)? Why don't you try running a sim on that split eights rule and get back to us on what you found out? I doubt you would believe it if someone here did it for you. If Harry1941 cannot fathom the concept of defensive splitting in BJ he may be beyond redemption.

I'm just wondering. That with unbalanced counts such as REKO-F or KO that count sevens as plus one and aces as minus one is this the reason why many of you feel these counts are inferior to other counting systems?FLASH1296 said:

It has nothing to do with "feeling" one way or the other about the count used.
There is a continuum that stretches from weak counts to powerful counts.
There is also a continuum of players, from weak to strong.
At the "weak" end is someone who plays simply as recreation. He may be a tourist or a hobbyist who plays once a week with some discretionary income.
For these peeps an easy level one count, even an unbalanced one, with a handful of departure indices will suffice.
At the "strong" end, there are Professional Players who rely on their winning to support themselves financially.
For these players, a powerhouse count system is a requisite tool; e.g. Hi-Opt II.
