Tiiping the Dealer

Tokes where she works add up to about another $1/hour on top of her base pay. nothing significant but It's usually 85 a paycheck or so. 26 paychecks a year puts it over the $2000 mark.

For a while I worked at a different casino as a cage cashier as well, and the toke rate there was pathetic. But then again, she works at a much better casino than I did.
Does she keep her tips or pool them with the other cashiers?

I like it when someone else is tipping well because it takes a little bit of the heat of you. Some places the dealers can get pretty crappy if they dont get their tokes.

So, I sit down at a table, and there's this other guy with an impressive stack of black chips. After a while, he leaves. The dealer then makes a comment to me along the lines of "man, that guy was a jerk". Basically, he was pretty demanding about his expectations (both in getting his greens and blacks changed back and forth) but also had unrealistically high expectation on what wins the dealer would "give" him (I think he had doubled up for a bit). But most importantly, the dude didn't toke a single penny.

I then gave the dealer suggestions on how he should have dealt with the guy. Like when the plunked over a few blacks and demanded "gimme green!", he could have simply thrown the chips at his face. Or when he said "gimme a 20", responding "screw you hippie, I'm going to MAKE YOU LOSE.". We both had a good laugh?

Is there a point to the story? Not really. Dealers can't make you lose. But, if you're a jerk, and don't tip, then dealers will think you're a stiff. And if they think you're a stiff, that's yet another checkmark on the "cliched card counter checklist".

... the conversation then turned to famous celebrities who don't tip. Yao Ming was a new one I hadn't hear of as a stiff.

My wife's tips are pooled together along with the other cashier's. This is a completely separate tip box from the dealers. Also different from the tip box of slot attendants.

I tip small amounts frequently. I'd say my average win is around $300 and that's after I probably give out about $20 to tips for cage and dealers. The dealers get the tip sin the form of bets placed for them.

..you have a good idea of what you expected $/hr win rate is, so you can set your tipping as a fraction of that.
Since I like to tip nice dealers and pretty waitresses etc I just choose to view it as a normal living expense and add any amounts I paid as tips from my chips back into BJ winnings in an effort to keep what I actually won thru playing BJ.

It even includes any inter-company loans to my wife if I give her a stack of chips lol.

Then I got no excuses for what my win rate is lol.

The point is that you want to be able to be just another patron. You stand out if you don't tip when you are winning. They will remember you as the guy who won big but didn't tip.

Exactly. You don't need to make this a science. Tip when you are winning to keep the dealers happy. And it doesn't have to be much. $3 for $5 base bets, $5 for $10 base bets, $10 for $25 base bets, etc.. And only when you feel pressure.
