...CES draws a crowd of 'geeks', many of whom get to vegas once a year or even less. They are not even what I would call occasional gamblers...
no kudos here, you'd be surprised how intelligent those 'geeks' are...now the porn crowd, ok...i'll give you them

I was using the term 'geeks' effectionately, not derogatory. An it wasn't a reference about anyone's intelligents. It was more a reference that this crowd is viewed as the occasion business trip type crowd that vegas thrives on. They are here for a different purpose and are willing to play crap games for enjoyment, (probably would play even money BJ if it was offered...) as opposed to the gambling savy crowds who require some sort of reasonable expectation or they start to shy away. Your point is well taken that the porn crowd, and the weekend in March when Nascar comes to the Las Vegas speedway as well as many others, are basically the same situation.

Kewl,
I was thinking along the same terms as you. The strip is typically aimed at the tourist who are just here to have fun. The local joints are the best starting point when an AP is here for profit. Even then like you and a couple of others have said, the games can change from day to day, hour to hour, hell even from dealer to relief dealer!!
I think even though the strip kind of sucks these days when it comes to low-roller blackjack, great games are here and alive for those savvy enough to search.

Disappointed ? Perhaps - I am wondering if I misinterpreted CBJN - when it says "20 $25 min SD17 tables" and I see only 2, that's quite a wide gap. And not one which "varies from hour to hour".

Correct, my report is centered on the strip. I did play some off-strip, and for those stores CBJN was more accurate. If you are not a local your scouting time is either limited or none, so CBJN becomes more significant.

My observations were indeed limited to a line for each place - I am not about to issue a detailed "bj21abc report", merely commenting on what I have seen - and one line is really enough to sum up what I saw and what I didn't over several visits.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed Bj21abc. A couple observations. Your report is centered on the strip area, when the best games in Vegas, are found off strip. And I am not talking a couple blocks like terribles or palms, but rather the 'locals' houses far off strip. Only one such location is included in your report. As far as CBJN. It is only a guide or reference point. Conditions in Vegas are very fluid and a Paddywhachk suggests they change within a casino not only from hour to hour but table to table. You gotta keep your eyes open and do your own scouting. You gotta realize that the reporters for CBJN do their scouting on the first couple days of the month and those conditions may not be reflective of the entire month. Take this month for example the first few days was a busy holiday weekend and conditions reported by the CBJN reporters probably won't reflect what is happening the rest of the month.

That being said, I find it absurd that you issue a single line conclution based on a brief observation. Especially for some of the bigger houses that have multiple pits and many, many tables. One line seems a bit incomplete as well as inconsistant from my personal experiences.

CBJN Accuracy

In Vegas I have found CBJN to be fairly accurate on rules and cuts. Of course cuts can have variance. The number of tables listed seems to be overestimated.:joker::whip:

Consider this

bj21abc,
Instead of acting offended, you should consider thanking Jason for giving you helpful info for future trips.
His observations are typically rock solid.

The tables listed is probably the total number of tables on the floor.

However, I still think the tables numbers listed are to high. I have read similar statements. I believe cbjn states that it lists total tables and it does not mean they are open.

If some of the others would do a quick table count and compare to recent cbjn's we would have confirmation, one way or the other.:joker::whip:

The number of tables in cbjn is divided up per limits - since closed tables usually have no limits posted, how would that be translated into the cbjn numbers ?

I ALWAYS count the total number of BJ tables.

Closed tables are often open on weekends.
